slotting in yuvraj as an opener would be a disaster (might as well play another bowler if gambhir is ruled out)

Yuvraj

Harby
praveen
Ishant

makes the middle order weak though
Who was the bloke who played against Australia last year and opened in at least one test? Was it Vijay? He looked all right. I realise it's a short turn around for this test, but couldn't they bring him in as cover?

He is not in the squad and returned to India from West Indies.

In any case, is in very poor form and has looked clueless every time since his 139 against Australia.

In form? Did you see Hayden and Hussey that summer? Not to mention the lack of anything useful from #6.

The difference between the actual quality of bowling between Anderson and Steyn down here is not very large.
Let's not kid ourselves.. Aussies were no 1 side then

Hayden was out of form but Hussey has almost always been a good player in Australia.. Steyn made him look out of form and owned him. Ponting was still making hundreds and Haddin and Clarke were in good nick.

Think it should be a fairly straight forward decision between Bresnan and Finn tomorrow especially for conditions that we are accustomed to at TB. Bresnan the superior bowler at present.

england to be 300 for 4 at the close of play.

or

england to be 130 for 2 at the close of play. having bowled india out for 150.

Any update on the weather today? Will there be a start of play on time?
From the replies in the game 'Last man standing', looks like many are not expecting much cricket before lunch.

I reckon we'll get the full session in but I suspect batting won't be especially easy in overcast conditions.

Well, I agree England are strong favourites, but this is somewhat over the top.
perhaps. but, missing their best bowler, and now most probably gambhir as well, i do not foresee a very pleasant day for the indians. though i would hope otherwise since a test that goes all the way to the wire is something i would dearly love to see.

Grey morning in the Midlands but no sign of rain. Let's look forward to most of a full day's play.

Two routes for India to hit back. First, they bat and find it's not swinging and their stellar batting posts a massive total. Second, they bowl in very seamer friendly conditions and whip England out for not much. Think they need to establish early dominance and not let England's depth of batting and bowling exert itself.

By the end of this test one of these teams will have made a very strong statement indeed.

both openers and our only good bowler out. woow. id say this indian team is 70% full strength or less. England's match to lose no doubt.
