ICC Greatest Test Team

shouldn't be too hard for him to maintain that avg tbh. All he has to do is bat for about 60 balls per innings on average and he'll achieve that.
In contrast, someone like dravid has to face alot more deliveries to keep avging 50+ (around 125 balls on avg).
Well most of the times a player's form goes down around this age. That's what I was trying to get at.

Yep.

Both Sehwag and Harbhajan were dropped for that England tour. But in Sehwag's case it was more due to his ODI form weirdly than his test form.

He played all the 3 matches in South Africa though, was only shifted down the order for one match IIRC.
After that he then wasn't picked for the tour to Bangladesh, and also England. What's more is that stupidly they also decided not to play him against Pakistan at home .
Haha I remember Jaffer scoring a 200 in really quick time in one of the matches. Imagine if Sehwag had got going, would probably have broken Lara's record lol. :D The pitches were very flat and Pakistan had some **** attacks as well in that series, under Shoaib Malik.

TBF to Jaffer and Karthik though, they did a very steady, if unspectacular job in England, especially the Trent Bridge game where they batted very patiently to drive home the advantage of bowling England out cheaply.

Jaffer was a classy player. He lacked some feet movement but could have been a perfect partner for Sehwag!

Gambhir is a excellent partner for Sehwag, tbf.

India's rise to the top and the unbeaten record almost coincides with Gambhir's coming into the team and forming the partnership with Sehwag.

In the ICC greatest team?

Honestly, it's a pretty ordinary team given the choices available. I don't feel comfortable at all having a team minus all those excellent cricketers (apart from Bradman) who played before the 80s.

Worst idea:@

Pick a team of the modern era and include Bradman. I suppose any player not an Indian would feel justified being included8-)

The ICC should get together some experts and come up with an exercise similar to when they slected the 5 players of the 20th Century or cricinfo all time team and select an official team.
Primarily when when looks around the internet at credible all time teams, they are basically the same. The main differences are the openers, with Hobbs, Hutton, Gavaskar, Sutcliffe and Sehwag all getting support. The constants are Bradman, V. Richards, Tendulkar, Sobers, Gilchrist, Marshall and Warne. Lillee, Mcgrath, Akram, Khan, Hadlee and Ambrose share support for the last two bowling places in opion as well.
The ICC needs to fix this though.

Well if they dont want to make their own team, nominate the cricinfo team as the official one.

Its not about making people happy. Its about the honour and more importantly, credibility.
