1st ODI vs Pakistan
Playing XI: Heads, Dharan, Narang, Ballich, Spark, Clark, Winne, Corrin, Capone, Howe, Dean
CW chose to bat on a slow but flat wicket and though the openers tried to start with confidence, Heads' innings never really clicked. The opener was out in the 10th over with the score on 39, having contributed 10 from 31 balls.
Narang looked to be in a more aggressive mood after his ODI recall for his 25, but CW's innings was built on a quality stand of 139 from Dharan and Ballich. The pair started slowly, with Pakistan's spinners looking to build the pressure, but Dharan eased through the gears to register his second ODI hundred.
Ballich was out in the 46th over, caught behind off Anjum, but Dharan stayed until the end. CW's wickets in hand allowed them to accelerate in the death overs, with Dharan and Spark (21* off 12) lifting CW up to a good total.
Chasing 250 to win, Pakistan's openers got off to a similar start to their CW counterparts. Shoaib Khan managed only 15 from 31 before being bowled by Winne in the 11th, the score on 42. From there, however, the innings diverged as Taufeeq and Yousuf departed in quick succession.
Pakistan struggled to keep up with the rate, and when Clark and Corrin struck in successive overs the innings had stumbled to 127/5 after 30. Inzamam tried to force the game back to the away side with a swift 61, including four fours in a row off Clark's final over, but went for one big hit too many against Corrin and was caught in the deep.
From there Pakistan were unable to force their way back in it as CW took regular wickets. Moin Khan's spirited 64 off 57 gave the away fans hope, but with 16 runs needed from the final over he was the last man out as he cut Winne straight to point.
