Really?Pathan was fairly lively pace anyway, not sure why he is relevant to this particular thread.
He'd have had amazing stats if all the balls that got smashed had been edged to the slips though.
I knew it was bad but had forgotten how bad it was, even worse than Kallis in terms of the differential and that takes some doing. There are a few good spells that stick out in the memory but Pakistan just owned him most of the time. He averages about 50 against them.
He actually averages 11 against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and 45 against everyone else.
He only got that bad in ODIs around '06 when he lost his swing and about 10kph, and was quickly dropped. So are you saying he was Gash and got tonked in all matches and series?
I think you are mixing up performances with the white ball maybe.
Yeah, that is how I remember it too. Remember him beating Gilchrist with a yorker on debut, must have had reasonable pace to do that.He only got that bad in ODIs around '06 when he lost his swing and about 10kph, and was quickly dropped.
Like vcs said he was not slow when he debuted (135-145) and for a few years after, and during that time he bowled reasonably in both tests and ODIs (Pak and Aus home and away). Lost his test form for a bit after (except against Zim/Bang) but remained decent in ODIs, before that massive decline.
Anyway, I believe he will come back. -)
that was such a lowIt was amazing to beat Pakistan away from home around that time with the likes of Pathan, Balaji, Nehra etc.
.
He was coming back from a more than year long break from any FC/List A cricket so was rusty at the start.I think he will only be able to come back to the test side if he is good enough to be the 3rd seamer, and I have hope he will rediscover his swing and nip. If he does, he will be awesome for us. Still not convinced he's ready though. Only briefly saw him bowling in the IPL but he was bowling straight unthreatening stuff.
That was the joke I thinkThat is true of every bowler.
You played into our hands by preparing roads in that series, and scoreboard pressure and Kumble on wearing wickets did the rest.that was such a low
Yeah that yorker was amazing! Immediately those tiresome Wasim comparisons began.Yeah, that is how I remember it too. Remember him beating Gilchrist with a yorker on debut, must have had reasonable pace to do that.

I agree that Ishant should not be played in ODIs at this stage of his career. He sucks at them, and it will only mess with his confidence for Tests.
Pretty sure he beat Gilchrist with the accuracy and reverse swing into him ,more than pace.Yeah, that is how I remember it too. Remember him beating Gilchrist with a yorker on debut, must have had reasonable pace to do that.

Yeah, true. It was amazing to beat Pakistan away from home around that time with the likes of Pathan, Balaji, Nehra etc.
That's great! He was coming back from a more than year long break from any FC/List A cricket so was rusty at the start.
But by the end seemed to have gotten his swing and nip back and was troubling everyone at the start and even troubled Sachin a lot in one match and got him bowled trying to attack him with the indipper IIRC.
I know you guys suck big time at producing quality fast bowlers but when you're pushing for a seamer who bowls slower than a part-time SLA to make the squad, then things must be even worse than I thoughtHe wasn't quicker than Asif ,Clarke etc.... and his major criticism was that he lacked pace and carry so many times.
