helpful pitches or not Harbhajan should be running through this batting lineup atleast once in 4 trys they are terrible against spin.

You cannot be serious !

Gillespie at his best was MUCH better than ishant at his best
Gillispie never got much reverse like Ishant does though tbf he was quicker then Ishant looking back again yeah not much in them.

Either they have learned to play spin in the course of a month, which is unlikely, so like I said yesterday, it seems Ajmal >> Harbhajan. TBF to him though, yesterday he was effectively bowling on a day 3/early day 4 pitch and had a catch dropped and some close LBWs rejected. Plus getting rid of Devon Smith helps... :p

Gillespie could move it both ways with a degree of comfort, Ishant can only get it to straighten a bit with his action...

anyone who watched gillespie during the tours to India in 2001 and 2004 would never ever say this

this and a lot more things .... the two are not even remotely comparable IMO ... gillespie was a FAR more complete and better bowler at his peak

Just looked at Rahane stats an FC average of 67.72 O.o

He must be here instead of **** vijay
Cannot simply rely upon a first class average to judge a player. Vijay averages 61.08 playing for Tamil Nadu, and he has struggled at the next level.

most of them on the roads od chepauk which is why he and mukund looked so rank in this series.... I think badri's stats also need to be taken with a pinch of salt, given I have never ever seen him comfortable in any of his int innings so far. although badri has much more experience, so could be the ramprakash factor too.

having said that, rahane looks a solid talent. whatever little I saw of him inthe ct, and some domestic, he has a compact and easy on the eye style of play. plays inside out to spinners with a flourish and can change gears pretty quickly as well.

think he should get a fair go.... in fact ahead of yuvraj in tests...

rahane's fc performances outside india, in eng he avgs 70 and in pakistan above 100, admittedly small samples, but he has adjusted quickly...

I am getting seriously worried about Dhoni's workload. The amount of cricket he has played as captain, keeper and batsman over the last couple of years is staggering and it's affecting his game. It might have been better to rest him for this test series. He hasn't contributed much anyway and he would have been in much better shape for the England series.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Yeah Edwards certainly is never going to be the best bowler in the world but he has shown that he is a pretty solid and potentially destructive quicky.

Now if only they could get rid of that shunt Sammy...

Edwards
Rampaul (and Taylor when he comes back)
Roach
Bishoo

Makings of one of the better attacks around.

The worst umpiring decision I ever personally saw was Sangakarra in Australia...he was on 192.....it was so horrible.
It was given the innings and situation but it was only replay that it transpired it was a shocker from Rudi. This however was not out in real-time or anytime for that matter. I had it on mute but doubtlessly if Sunil was around, he probably thought it was a good shout.

Good to see Baugh play well under pressure. Was worried Ramdin might have to comeback. What to do with Sarwan and Shiv though? Chanderpaul faced 200+ balls this match and didn't even score 50 runs. Sarwan is gone, looks hopeless against anything on or around off-stump but Shiv is able to bat time but unable to score any runs. Maybe get Simmons down to 3 and recall Kraig.

Whatever it takes!!!
He is getting the ball to straighten a bit!!!An added dimension to his bowling!!!
TBF, he did that a LOT when Australia toured India in 2008 when we fielded what I thought was our best attack in recent memory, both on form and for the conditions available..

Zaheer, Ishant, Harbhajan and Mishra (2 out of the 4 tests had this bowling line up) was just awesome.. All in good form and all bowling well around then.

I was only referring to the issue of bowling a LOT of good balls but getting very few wickets to show for it. To me Gillespie signified that trait throughout his career.. Bowls amazing deliveries but somehow doesn't get those big hauls that he would deserve.

I never even tried to imply that Ishant is in Gillespie's league. :)

You do realise Shiv was trying to save the match...?

Yeah, he played some good knocks in the ODIs coming in at dire situations. His keeping has always been very tidy. Thankfully the runs he got yesterday didn't come in the first Test (and Samuels wasn't picked) because that chase was fairly gettable. :p
But that's the thing ,all these West Indian batsman and bowlers seem to perform in lost causes ,not when it matters most and makes a difference.

Even in the last 2 ODI series against India and Pakistan they have lost the series first and then won the remaining matches.
