WICB have no right to deprive International cricket of Gayle like that. They can go **** themselves, hoping we whitewash Windies in the tests.

When does Gayle play next, SLPL?

I really like Sammy's attitude and I wish more WI cricketers were like him in that regard, but he just isn't that good. Russell is definitely a better prospect than him. Given the lack of captaincy options and instability in WI, you have to admire Sammy for taking the heat that goes with the job.

He was the only one not clapping from the stands when Sarwan got his 50 in the 5th ODI. Gayle also doesn't like him for some reason. He may be a good Test bowler, but a Captain he is not.

Excited to watch Mukund bat. Has had success in domestic cricket as well as overseas tours with A teams.

When Gibson was appointed, I was in favour, but now I'm not so sure. It seems his ego is a bit too big to be in a bruising job such as WI coach. He's got rid of Benn and Gayle, and now he has his knives out for Shiv. This from the same cricinfo story about the team selected:

"Following communications between WICB management and Chanderpaul over the past weeks the WICB management and team management will meet with Shivnarine Chanderpaul prior to the Test," the board said. "The WICB management and team management will outline to Chanderpaul the WICB's expectations of him in his future participation in the West Indies team as a player."

So, who's next? Sarwan?
After all, the WI failure to win the World Cup was all down to these four senior players, and absolutely no one else. No wonder Sarwan's being treading on eggshells these days....
Aside from his obviously rocky relationship with some of the seniors, I think Gibson's reign thus far has had way more positives than negatives.

Getting rid of Benn was such an obvious thing to do with better spinners with better attitudes waiting on the wings. His crusade against Gayle and Chanderpaul is unfortunate though.

Sarwan better be kept safe though. He's one of my favourite batsmen to watch

I'm genuinely worried that this Indian side may struggle. Praveen and Ishant are a highly suspect opening bowling pair!

Just read about Munaf and Vijay's injuries.

Dead set, we'll have a mixture of 1st XI and 3rd XI players now if Mithun and Patel play.

Yeah they are, but they were cancelled out by the fact we had 1st XI players playing (Laxman, Dhoni, Dravid).

Now we'll have a mixture of 1st XI and 3rd XI (Parthiv Patel, Mithun etc.).

Will edit above post for clarity.

Some 1st XI players (Laxman, Dhoni, Dravid), some 2nd XI players (Praveen, Kohli, Badrinath, Raina) and some 3rd XI players (Parthiv Patel, Mithun, Mukund).

Probably be about a 2.5 XI by the time the first test comes around

India (possible): 1 Abhinav Mukund, 2 M Vijay/Parthiv Patel, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 and 6 Virat Kohli, S Badrinath, Suresh Raina, 5 VVS Laxman, 7 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Ishant Sharma, 10 Praveen Kumar, 11 9 Amit Mishra/Munaf Patel

That's the cricinfo take.

We don't have a third seamer if Munaf's injured...

Would be a blessing in disguise as Mishy will be playing then.

Also, if Vijay is injured, I think Dravid should open, with Badri getting a spot in the middle order. I hope sanity prevails and team management should go for that.

My team (assuming Vijay and Munaf are out)

R Dravid
A Mukund
V Kohli
VVS Laxman
S Badrinath
S Raina
MS Dhoni
Harbhajan
Mishy
Ishant
Praveen

Jeez that looks a depleted no.1 side indeed...

That's actually a good point. Because of Mithun's visa problems, we actually only have two seam bowlers, which could be a good thing as its more important to see what Mishra does than Munaf Patel (who won't play in England imo) or Mithun (well behind the pack).

Vijay being injured is ****house though. That's a real blow.

Dravid won't open. Dhoni's already mentioned that Parthiv will open if push comes to shove.

We might end up taking the field without our regular openers and best batsman, a makeshift opener instead, a suspect #6 and two spinners to complement a third XI opening attack. Someone explain to me how we ever made it to #1

Parthiv Patel opening achieves nothing ffs.

If Dravid opened, we could have a straight up shootout between Kohli (replacing Dravid's spot at #3), Badrinath (replacing Sachin at #4) and Raina (replacing Pujara at #6) over the three tests.

Alternatively Laxman can bat #3 like he loves to do, and Kohli can bat #5.

Nah, VVS hated opening early in his career. On record saying so.

Dravid opened plenty of times and did the team thing. He's probably sick of it too. Poor Rahul, always gets the short end of the stick. :(

Still, Dravid opening not only helps us win the WI series moreso than Patel opening would, it also gives us a better opportunity to assess our options for the England series.
