Truly, only Chris Gayle is cool enough to wear that gear and get away with it.

I take it there has been some discussion in this thread over Mike Holding's comments in England today about Gayle's dispute with the Board? Found them very instructive tbh.
Very interesting, wasn't it? Holding seemed to indicate, without calling any names, that Gibson said that if Gayle was let back into the team, he was quitting....

Yeah but I said the bench strength was not as good as we thought it was. Other than a couple of First XI players + Amit Mishra, no one performed outstandingly. Agree with you on Dhawan's selection.
not sure you got me properly, but what I meant to say is that with 80 percent of your resources being second or third choice and winning with it an overseas series is a creditable achievement.

Had we been a bit less complacent, we'd have won the 5th one but credit to W Indies also.

Gibson has actually been pretty successful as coach so far tbf

Windies squad has been announced. Gayle left out obviously. So has Dwayne Bravo. Very pleased with Senior Bravo left out. Needs to sort out his priorities if he wants to play for the Windies in any form IMO. Shouldn't make the OD or test team

Unfortunately, it seems the position held by Sammy keeps Russell out of the team. Shame

Squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Brendan Nash, Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh (wk), Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons.

Going by the recent ODIs, Russell would be a huge upgrade on Sammy. Cheers WI selectors!

I'd say he would be. Put in some very good WI A performances before his selection. He'd be perfect for that all rounder spot that is currently 'filled' by Sammy.

I wouldn't mind Fidel Edwards coming in for this test match, especially with the extra bounce. Could be a huge gamble, but a bowling attack of Roach, Rampaul, Edwards, and Sammy could have something to it if the pitch is going to retain its bounce for the test.

That attack is too similar IMO, even with the Indians being good against spin, a bit of bounce will assist Bishoo. I haven't seen anything of Edwards recently TBF.

I don't think Roach, Rampaul and Edwards are all that similiar but thats a fair point about Bishoo.

By the end of the Wi domestic first class season Edwards was starting to produce some good results. Though I don't know how much competitive cricket he has played since

I really like Sammy's attitude and I wish more WI cricketers were like him in that regard, but he just isn't that good. Russell is definitely a better prospect than him. Given the lack of captaincy options and instability in WI, you have to admire Sammy for taking the heat that goes with the job.

Sammy's undroppable on merit. He's had the most successful start to a test career by a West Indian bowler this century. To drop him you would have to decide that taking test wickets isn't what you're looking for in a test bowler.

A win - win situation then.....
When Gibson was appointed, I was in favour, but now I'm not so sure. It seems his ego is a bit too big to be in a bruising job such as WI coach. He's got rid of Benn and Gayle, and now he has his knives out for Shiv. This from the same cricinfo story about the team selected:

"Following communications between WICB management and Chanderpaul over the past weeks the WICB management and team management will meet with Shivnarine Chanderpaul prior to the Test," the board said. "The WICB management and team management will outline to Chanderpaul the WICB's expectations of him in his future participation in the West Indies team as a player."

So, who's next? Sarwan?
After all, the WI failure to win the World Cup was all down to these four senior players, and absolutely no one else. No wonder Sarwan's being treading on eggshells these days....

I don't see how getting rid of Benn is anything other than a huge bonus for the West Indies.
