Is cook really this good or just in the form of his life cashing in on a weak attack?I'm going to be following this guy's career with some interest for nxt 2 yrs.
Not sure, the thing is he has reached the age where lots of players kick on and improve so he may be the real deal. Like you i will be watching the next few years with interest. Same goes for Ian Bell too who looks a complete player these days.

One thing remarkable abt cook is he never throws it away,he gets through the new ball he makes u pay.He doesn't make too many 30s-40s .He goes big. This is something noticeable lately.

He doesn't waste good form, like say, Strauss. Graeme Smith is another one who comes to mind, makes the most of his patches of good form.

SL to win the 3rd Test and walk away with a share of the series, leaving everyone wondering how they managed it with this attack, IMO.

Maharoof needs to go.. Wonder what they were thinking when they picked him in the first place. Weakens the batting line up, and weakens the already weak bowling lineup.

hang on

State Vice-Captain
maharoof's running in the field makes even those arthritic camels, munaf and laxman, look positively boltesque.

I don't think Strauss is a good example to use. Prior to taking on the captaincy he had one of the best conversion rates of any player. He's changed his game up recently, which has meant he's got out after a quick (by his previous standards) 50.

And now he's out of form, which is obviously a completely separate issue.

Hmm.. you're probably right. Couldn't think of anyone else, though I suspect several Pakistan batsmen would have served as better examples when it comes to criminally wasting starts. Watto as well, I guess.

We'll be getting thrashed at Rose Bowl if

1) Sanga and MJ doesn't make something meaningful. Dilshan was doing overtime and scoring for both of them.

2) Selectsuckers get selection wrong.

We need two reliable batsmen in their, and Herath has to go. Just not good enough whenthe wicket does not turn.

My team

Piranha, Kaushal Silva, Sanga, MJ, Sam, Chandimal, PJ, Randiv, F'do, Welegedara, Lakmal

I saw the off-spinner Senanayake's f/c record the other day and it's staggering. :-O I've never seen the guy bowl but with that kind of numbers against quality island players of spin, I think he could be tried out.

He's in the squad, right? You reckon there are any chances that he might get a game?

Senanayke is a real gem when it comes to off breaks. He's nearly 6' 2" tall, gives it a serious rip and very bullish in attitude. SL domestic bowlers' stats should be taken with a pinch of salt because they play on **** pitches and should add 5 - 6 runs to it to have a meaning. Still with that his stats are impressive. More impressive has been his demolition jobs against A teams (Aussie and Pakistani), and will be certain to dish it out to England Lions this season at least in one innings.

But you know, the Sri lankan select suckers are a rare breed. Even Ijaz Butt looks like Einstein compared to them. He was deemed not good enough to play in President's XI against WI few months back, yet alone the touring squad!

Not out of form though, scored centuries in both first class matches in the run up to the test series which kind of makes your point irrelevant.

Well I took vcs to mean a player who doesn't go on when he's scored a few and in good nick.

Point taken aside from that, nonetheless.

The only way Sri Lanka are winning the next Test is if England inexplicably declare too early.
