Not much of a contest, this.

Used to be the one day kings, Glouscestershire, didn't they? How times have changed.

They can't help it if Somerset are awesome.

Actually wanted to see Buttler and Gregory bat, so was hoping for a few wickets.

Nice little win for the Oldest County against Mddx. Patchy season for us so far, but there is room for some optimism. Runs at no 3 for Luke Wright as well!

Very clinical from Somerset today against an average, yet under strength, Gloucester side. The visitors needed something special from their batsmen to stand a chance, but they didn't capitalise on a decent position.

Somerset batting's very strong looking and they chased the target down without the need for Hildreth, Buttler, or Suppiah to bat. Lewis Gregory looks exciting with the ball, his yorkers were bang on target and this kid is supposedly a useful bat too!

Even against the Unicorns, Lopsy still gets a hiding. Wickets are probably too true for him at the moment and he no longer really swings the ball, so at 75mph he is cannon fodder if he can't get the cutters going. Would have probably been a very good signing August onwards.

Virus out LBW again. Over 75% of Alviro's dismissal so far this season have been LBW or bowled. Just bowl straight.

Looks like it will be Cook and Kes as the openers for the Sri Lanka ODIs.

Been very poor so far Tsotsobe. Think the timing of his arrival over here would generally be the ideal period, it's just that the weather has been so dry in comparison to the normal April/May weather. The usual wet and green early season tracks that would have given Tsotsobe the necessary movement to compensate for a lack of any real pace have not been evident.

Tsotsobe was bowling at a pretty decent pace when India toured SA recently.

One of two County Championship games covered by Sky this season gets underway in the morning, Sussex against Notts at Hove. The added interest of both sides having their England players available so I expect Prior to come into the Sussex side, presumably as a specialist batsman, and Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann to make a timely return for Notts with their current injury problems in the bowling attack.

Looking forward to seeing Luke Wells bat, already has two centuries to his name this season, though it's disappointing another young England hope for the future will be missing, Alex Hales, after having his jaw operated on.

Love the chance to watch some first-class cricket on TV.

Michael Yardy (good to see him back) has won the toss for Sussex and they're going to have first go on a very good looking batting track, according to all those at the ground. A good chance to have a look at a strong Notts bowling attack - Broad, Adams, Fletcher, and Swann, with Samit Patel and Steven Mullaney adding further options.

Whether it's a good track or not, the likes of Nash, Joyce, Wells, Goodwin, Prior, Yardy and Wright will have to work hard for their runs against some quality bowlers.

The sky is clear blue and the sun is shining, let's hope for an exciting day's play,

In other games, Essex have left Maurice Chambers out of the squad in favour of Chris Wright, who makes only his second CC appearance this season. Can't help but think if Tsotsobe wasn't the overseas player, he'd have been the man to miss out.

Essex's opponents Derbyshire unsurprisingly have former Essex man Tony Palladino in the side, he'll share the new ball with Tim Groenewald, they have picked up over 30 wickets between them already this season, so a good test for England opener Alastair Cook. Derby have won the toss and will field.

Di Venuto and Phil Mustard are back in the Durham side against Somerset giving their batting a strong look. Onions rehab continues with another game under his belt, still no Harmison or Plunkett, so Callum Thorp and Ruel Braithwaite get another opportunity to cement a place. A specialist spinner included in Scott Borthwick.

No Craig Kieswetter after his century at the weekend, so Jos Buttler will keep. The exciting Lewis Gregory and Alex Barrow make their second career CC appearances. Gemaal Hussain and Steve Kirby will be buoyed getting a few wickets under their belt in their last run out in the CC.

Kent and Glamorgan is the final CC game starting today, Glamorgan look close to full strength, while Kent's injury problems in their bowling attack persist. Matt Coles, Dewald Nel and Neil Saker are the three specialist seamers, supported by all-rounders Darren Stevens and Alex Blake, and the experienced James Tredwell will be vital in the slow bowling role.

Broad looking in very good rhythm early on, getting the ball to shape very nicely away from the right-hander (Nash), at good pace too.

Rob Key and Geraint Jones' below par seasons with the bat continue, they've both gone early against Glamorgan.

Alastair Cook's not passed his test against his former team-mate Tony Palladino, he's gone caught behind for four.

Somerset's Arul Suppiah another man to go early today, Callum Thorp accounting for him.

Andre Adams first over has gone for 20 runs! His first five deliveries all finding their way to the boundary off the bat of Chris Nash. His last two balls were unfortunate that one flashed through the slip region and the other just missed the outside edge, but there were three poor deliveries in that over in which Nash jumped all over them tbf.

Jaik Mickleburgh (9) and Ravi Bopara (0) have followed Cook back to the pavillion. Palldino with two wickets and Groenewald with one again causing trouble with the new ball at the top of the opponents batting order.

So what the frig has happened to Essex's batting? Destroyed by Darren Stevens, capitulated against Middlesex and now this.

Yes they've been poor with the bat all season, barring the 360 run chase against Glamorgan. A clutter of wickets falling again at the top of the order leading to a kind of consolidatory period hopefully, young Adam Wheater making his first CC game of the season, and the experienced Matt Walker are going to have to lead the way.

Ravi would have done more for his test prospects going to the IPL.
Eoin Morgan would still have been firm favourite had he done that though. Think he chose absolutely the right option, he'd have done more for his Test prospects if he'd have batted better and more consistently for Essex.
