'Official' Pakistan in West Indies

People get pissed with how conservative Australian selectors are, but this is the other side of the coin. Stupid selections just to try to look like they are doing something. I suppose his replacement will be ****ing Lendl Simmons?

Good to see Marlon Samuels back, though. Was really starting to live up to his potential before the ban.

West Indies cricket is an absolute joke at the moment. Plenty of talent around at the moment but the administration is disgraceful. Their best players being dropped, missing Tests to play IPL, Devon Thomas - it just gets worse every time.
Plenty of talent?Their talent pool has been dry for a while now.I don't live there, but i'm sure interest in the game as declined too significantly.

I'm not sure that I agree....

The talent is there, because the England Lions took part in the Caribbean domestic four-day competition, and they could only manage to tie for third place. The problem is making the step up from FC cricket to international level cricket, and that has been what the administrators have trouble managing well.

Here's a thread that covers the domestic competition, and while it's thrown up some new names, it's also been dominated by old ones such as Darren Ganga, Wavell Hinds, Lendl Simmons and Pedro Collins.

Pollard isn't interested in this series, since he's signed up for the IPL. But it looks like the WI selectors are prepared to allow him to play in the IPL, and then call him back for the India series....

Hard to like Bravo anymore tbh. Has been grating for a while but that's the final straw.

I think missing any international match for the IPL is ridiculous. The Australian players chose to play an ODI series against Bangladesh instead of the IPL. Here we have West Indian players opting out of Tests and ODIs against Pakistan for the IPL. Shows why there is a massive gulf between the two at the moment. The selectors' justification ("hone his T20 skills in the Indian Premier League") is hilarious.
What's more, the players are jeopardizing their country’s proud record of never losing to Pakistan in their home soil. If I were any of the great WI legends of the past, I would find that heartbreaking.

Big Bravo was going to be dropped anyway for the test series.

Shivfan, whats the status on Edwards?

West Indies actually have some great talent potential, but it never gets realised or gets bungled by the administration or injuries come into play

For example. This a potentially world class pace attack if they could actually all get into the team together

Roach
Edwards
Taylor
Russell

With batsmen like Barath and Junior Bravo supported by Gayle, Shiv and Sarwan.

I like the general idea of moving forward with youth, particularly in ODI cricket where we have been disastrous for at least 3 years now. But to drop our three best players in one go is an incredibly stupid thing to do. There is no way Gayle and Sarwan should be dropped, it's ludicrous and mostly politically motivated. How they can keep a straight face after naming Sammy as captain whilst dropping 3 of our only world class players I just don't know.

As others have said, I like the return of Samuels and the dropping of Benn and Miller who were just so ineffecitve at the World Cup. But these are young players that should be learning from the seniors rather than all playing together at once. I agree with Mike, I can just about stomach this for a silly ODI series but if any of those 3 don't feature in the test squad I'll be furious.

Exactly....

That's why I'm not bothered about Dwayne Bravo playing in the IPL. On the contrary, I would've been upset if the selectors had picked him for the Tests, given his poor showing in the five-day game in Sri Lanka in the autumn.

Fidel Edwards? He had a rusty start for Barbados, but finished well, taking 22 wickets at an average of 23.77. In contrast, Jerome Taylor started brilliantly for Jamaica, but his comeback was once again curtailed by injury. But, of course, Got Spin, you know that, because you've been a regular contributor on the thread I posted above.

Agreed. I believe I was calling for him to be dropped during that test series and it's actually a decent selection choice. The dropping of Benn and Miller is also another good decision.

I was just wondering if Fidel Edwards was playing the IPL or if he was being rested for the tests - I, of course, know how they went in the Windies domestic

Sadly, the WI selectors operate in mysterious ways, so we can only guess what plans they have for Fidel....
The only WIndies players signed up for the IPL are Pollard, Big Bravo, and the injured Jerome Taylor (Pune), so Fidel should be available for the Tests. I would be very surprised and disappointed if he's not picked.

Don't see what the issue is with Bravo, he's probably the most over-rated player in international cricket and any Tests he misses are a good thing for the West Indies.

Indeed. Presuming they pick him for the tests, I'm quite happy he's not playing the meaningless ODIs

I don't think I've ever looked forward to a WI tour more than this one.The Jimmy Adams century still hurts, the fact that we had him out on multiple occasions hurts even more.We will never have a better chance of beating WI in WI in a test series than this.I'm fairly confident, plus with exciting prospects like Junaid and Sadaf in the side this should be a good series for Pakistan.

Nothing tops my dream of an ODI WC win,but test series wins in WI,SA and Australia are not too far behind.Wins in Australia and SA might not be possible soon, but a win in WI is more than possible this time.Misbah and Co won't dissapoint i'm sure.

Apparently there were threats of lawsuits to enable Gayle to play in the IPL.

At least with this series I don't have to pay much attention and save my money. Meh. Whitewash.
