'Official' Pakistan in West Indies

I think it'd be safe to say that India have suffered more at the hands of Kamran Akmal than any other team has.

Khatmal's and Razzaq's finest hour. I remember everything from that Test. I was so utterly frustrated in that first over madness, and completely depressed by the time that sixth wicket fell. Then came The Stand by those two. Knowing their form and career graph now, it seems completely amazing that they were able to buck India like that. Incidentally, still remember this amusing bit of posting from Beleg describing the Pathan hat-trick:

And finally…

Woke up and the nightmare was gone by the close of play.

I had forgotten all about that.

pakistan really should have won the georgetown test in 2000 where wasim took 11 wickets and saqlain fluffed a ridiculously easy runout chance. not to mention LBWs and catches not given.

(yeap, i am still a wee bit bitter about that)

Hey, just paying you back for all the bad decisions the West Indies got in Pakistan....

"About Bravo, the release said: "Dwayne Bravo, who is also contracted to an IPL franchise, will play in the one-day series against Pakistan but will miss the two Tests in order to participate in the IPL. Like Pollard, Bravo also remains committed to West Indies cricket and will be available for future selection to the West Indies team in all formats.""

Pakistan in West Indies 2011: Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan dropped from ODIs | Cricket News | West Indies v Pakistan | ESPN Cricinfo

Just not when the IPL is on. Loss of senior Bravo isn't that serious, batting and bowling has gone down the toilet and if Sammy has to play, you can't carry two bits and pieces cricketers in the same side.

No Gayle is a joke. Only good thing is that Benn and Nikita have been axed. Wonder if Devon Thomas will break new ground and reach double figures. Take it Barath is still injured?

Hmm. Is Edwards playing in the IPL? Otherwise I'm surprised he's not picked or being saved for the tests

West Indies cricket is an absolute joke at the moment. Plenty of talent around at the moment but the administration is disgraceful. Their best players being dropped, missing Tests to play IPL, Devon Thomas - it just gets worse every time.

Opting out of two tests for your nation.

To play in the IPL as a mercenary.

Not cool. That entire article was not cool.

How on earth can you drop Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan? Bravo and Pollard choosing IPL over international cricket is a joke. Pakistan will hammer this team even if they are made to play with a blindfold.

If they took ODIs off to play IPL it'd be a dire but I'd get over it. Never should a player miss a Test though.

I think missing any international match for the IPL is ridiculous. The Australian players chose to play an ODI series against Bangladesh instead of the IPL. Here we have West Indian players opting out of Tests and ODIs against Pakistan for the IPL. Shows why there is a massive gulf between the two at the moment. The selectors' justification ("hone his T20 skills in the Indian Premier League") is hilarious.

Hey, it's just a face-saving gesture, guys....

Big Bravo is an automatic pick for the ODIs, but he was about to be dropped from the Test side, so this is a suitable compromise that works out well for both sides. Dwayne's stats in Tests for 2010 were poor, especially in the last series in Sri Lanka, and he was on the verge of being replaced.

As for the side picked, the only grouses I really have is with Thomas and Martin being picked. But this is yet another meaningless ODI series, so the Windies might as well start preparing an ODI side with the 2015 World Cup in mind....

Having said that, I would be blowing my top if Gayle, Sarwan and Shiv were left out of the Test squad....
