I guess you may be right, but personally I think it is silly if he wants to go out there in ODIs. He has already won the series there last time and if his intention is to end on a high in ODIs, surely nothing can be better than a WC win in Mumbai?HB,
agreed on dhoni. As far as Sachin is concerned, I think he might retire after getting to the 50 centuries mark in ODIs or maybe he has the Aus tour in 2011-12 in mind to retire from ODIs ?
I think he should play both ODIs and Tests against the top sides.Yeah I love Sachin, and if he wants to go on playing I'm not going to hate him for it, but I would love to see some of the young guys get a go in the ODIs now. They've already been having a shot in some matches, but I mean over a 6 month period to show what they've got.
That being said, if he plays on in ODIs I am going to be able to see him play ODI cricket in England when I'm there and then in Australia as well. Hell yeah
yeah, agreed. Aus tour was just a passing thought. 50 centuries in ODIs is a more probable one . Let's see what happensI guess you may be right, but personally I think it is silly if he wants to go out there in ODIs. He has already won the series there last time and if his intention is to end on a high in ODIs, surely nothing can be better than a WC win in Mumbai?
Obviously though, all this discussion is moot.. It is his call.
I agree. Didn't Sehwag say he'd retire after 100 tests some time last year as well?I think he should play both ODIs and Tests against the top sides.
It might sound strange, but I seriously have a feeling that Sachin and Sehwag will retire around same time. The type of player Sehwag is, I don't see him playing more than another 3-4 years and If Sachin can manage his games, he may last that long.
I love this picture. Genuinely brought a smile to my face.
Agreed. The selectors should try some fresh faces especially the bowlers. It is a great time to experiment. Give some rest to some of the senior playersyeah, I don't see why he intends to continue playing, tbh.. Unless he has his sights on 50 ODI tons, and probably quit over the next year or so... I would still like to see us go with a relatively light on experience side to the Windies, both in tests and ODIs. We will see if the pretenders can be the real deal or not..
haha......yeah...........he has been a constant thorn in the flesh for Australia over the years....If he picked any other country to be a ubiquitous source of pain to he'd be my favourite non-Aus player by miles.
Just makes it worse, tbh. Even worse, he's apparently pretty bright.haha......yeah...........he has been a constant thorn in the flesh for Australia over the years....
A thorough gentleman on and off the field
haha.....might end up making people like himself who are thorn in the flesh for other sidesJust makes it worse, tbh. Even worse, he's apparently pretty bright.
A renaissance man. Dabbled in academia, makes his mark in sport and will likely go and do someone else awesome when he finishes.
Disgusting.
Although avg and conversion rate are approximately the same, there is a 7,000 run gap. Much harder to sustain an avg for longer (over more runs). Here is another example of why citing a large gap in international hundreds as proof of significant superiority is flawed
Batting records | Combined Test, ODI and T20I records | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo
This is the end of the Aus 07-08 season. Ponting has 60 international hundreds, Tendulkar has 81. At the time, who would I have called the greater batsman? Ponting. Have I changed my view since? Yes. Would a lot of people have agreed with me at the time? Yes. Yet Tendulkar has 21 more hundreds. So it's not even inarguable that Tendulkar is the best, let alone that he is significantly better - at the time. So what does that tell you about the "he has many more hundreds" argument? It tells me that it isn't that significant, after all, a lot of quite good players have less than 21 international hundreds.
awtai have no doubt sachin is as aware of the rest of us that as a professional sportsman you are a long time retired. He must still be enjoying his cricket and while he continues to, and can do his job as well as he does, there's no reason for him to retire and i hope he doesn't
Are you sure????How many matches has he played over the last two years (excluding the World Cup)? Only four.
