India needs to stop promoting Yusuf up the order to increase the run rate. Can't recall a time it's worked and besides, I want to see Kohli bat rather than come in the end and slog

Funny how the calls of him being a hack, and the posters that were responsible, disappeared when he hit two amazing hundreds in the last six months.

And his pies are doing a decent job with the ball compared to what the others are serving up

Yeah, but you'd pick Kohli over him... obviously.

Unless you require him for other business

Haha, well I personally think India still have the right batting lineup and order. I wouldn't change it.

At the end of the day, Yusuf was told to go out and hit over the top in the powerplay overs vs. SA. He tried that and was dismissed. It was the strategy that was wrong.

Oh yeah, I certainly wouldn't drop him, but as you say, it's a bad strategy. It's also one that is not particularly suited to Yusuf. Like a lot of sloggers, he does take a while to get his eye in, get the pace of the pitch etc.

Your more orthodox players are actually more likely to find the boundary from ball one.

And I just compare the way the Indians approached the PP and the way we approached it yesterday and I just get confused. Obviously the standard of bowling was much less, but we still got plenty of runs in it by picking gaps and crease manipulation. Only "one over the top" shot was tried - not coincidentally, that shot lost a wicket.

Genuine question - has Yusuf ever actually been successful when he's been sent up the order?

You won't see big scores when you're sent up for the 42nd over or so though. 35 off 20-odd is pretty decent and what you want.

Pathan was sent up in the 34th over though. 36 off 23 isn't a particularly brilliant contribution, particularly when you compare it to Dhoni's effort.

Your criticism of Yusuf here is that he's not someone who performs when he comes in with easy runs on the offering.

If he performed in the inverse, i.e. only scored in these situations, he'd be criticised.
