Munaf Patel, Yuvraj Singh, the absence of Sreesanth, wishing Praveen Kumar was here, fields spread far out, India are trying hard to mess things up.
Dropping Sreesanth was needless, and nonsensical. He's India's best pacer inside of India, and chips a lot of wickets. You don't see much of that with the others. He's got a supremely better average (27) and a strike rate under 30, which makes him a lot more useful. Both his replacement and the one who retained his place had Sreesanth-esque economy rates. While this would cause yet another bowling selection change, the sooner Zaheer and Sreesanth are together again, the better. Munaf shouldn't be playing ODIs for some time. Equally comical is that Praveen Kumar is missed- he's a sitting duck in India.
Every time the Indian bowling struggles or fails, we seem to narrow it down on the hardworking, unlucky bowlers. Why is nothing said about the utterly dross bowling of Yuvraj? He deserves to be dropped because of his bowling. No wickets in as many as 14 overs, and an economy over six, despite Dhoni protecting him, suggests he's leagues behind the same team's much-criticised bowling attack. While India's bowlers struggle in extremely difficult conditions with little or no support, Yuvraj seems to get all the protection, and still turns out dross performances. What if he was put in the same conditions when a main bowler is getting hammered? Dravid tried it once, to show why India needs a fifth bowler, maybe.
Five bowlers are an option, but Yusuf Pathan is a capable fifth bowler when given a chance. He'll also add solidity to the lower order.
The Indians field well, with the available fielding resources, but once a batting side turns up the heat and the bowlers get hammered, they tend to fall apart. Even their best fielders fluffed in that game. They can drop Munaf, but outside of that, it's still a decent fielding unit.
