....didn't think I'd ever see anything like that in CZW of all places...

Haha, on a somewhat related note I've been watching some of the matches from the Indy scene from a couple of years back and come across some really decent stuff. I'm not usually a fan of the likes of 3PW and CZW because like you say it's often just full of crazy and excessively violent hardcore stuff, but I did find a load of matches between the likes of AJ Styles, Joey Mercury, Matt Striker and Low-Ki which were really awesome. Shame Matt Striker got stuck with such a poor gimmick in the WWE, because his ring work is really really good. I think he's great in his current role as a commentator/personality...but I do wonder what could have been...That's exactly why it was so randomly hilarious. You'd expect someone being powerbombed on a cactus. Not hypnosis and dancing
Was a good watch hehe.
I'm hoping he'll be on Raw. He's a great commentator. He was replaced on commentary by Booker T on this weeks Smackdown. I'm not sure where Matt Striker goes from here. Maybe a three man booth on Raw or just continues doing commentary on WWE Superstars. I don't see him going back into the ring but you never know as I don't think he ever got injured or retired from wrestling.
Yes. He is passionate about the industry, has amazing knowledge, is funny and enthusiastic. He was the best commentator in the E until Cole became a new person. You think Matt Striker is a great commentator? You can't be serious!
He is passionate, he has great knowledge (though he does make up the odd fact) and he is funny and enthusiastic. However, he is extremely annoying and interrupts other commentator LOADS with pointless stuff, especially when in a 3 man team. He is good in theory, but in practice, he is tremendously irritating.Yes. He is passionate about the industry, has amazing knowledge, is funny and enthusiastic. Haha oh man I disagree so much on both of them. Striker is OK in small doses, but he's constantly interrupting, sprouting absolutely irrelevant ****, reeling off nicknames that are awful and outright making up "facts". I like his enthusiasm, but he's just downright awful at times.
I get what they are trying to do with Cole, but at the moment he's the type of commentator that makes me want to change the channel. That is not a good thing. He reminds me too much of those old WCW commentators who did their best to get themselves over and other storylines at the expense of what is on the screen. He's a great character, but I think he probably has to be a colour man to pull his role off. As it is, he spends half his time calling a match straight and the other half being a dick and that just ends up detracting from the wrestling. And this is coming from a guy who likes Cole.
See, I know what you mean with Cole and I think I'm finding his act a bit more natural on Smackdown, where Josh calls more of the play-by-play and he just sneers. TBH I'd be quite happy for them to just make him the full-time GM. They've been using him as a guest referee in dark matches just because of the heat he's not getting, will be interesting to see where they wind up going with him.He is passionate, he has great knowledge (though he does make up the odd fact) and he is funny and enthusiastic. If he was a wrestler now though, after his commentating stint, I think he could be a truly despised heel or a loved face. I think his commentating stint has elevated his public profile in such a way that he could go either face or heel and be successful.
Yeah, Josh was great on NXT and I was glad he got the chance to step up to Smackdown (and parts of Raw pretty much every week since Punk went back into the ring and King has been having matches).I've got to say though that Josh Matthews is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the commentators. The guy can do play by play style announcing and he can do colour commentary as well. He's also very smart in terms of his knowledge about the industry and always comes across well. I hope he gets the chance to commentate on PPV's soon.
Yes, that - I am not a stickler for facts, it would just seem he wants to talk for the sake of spouting whatever bull**** he wants, regardless of whether it has any value. Not the backstage things, I know that is part and parcel of the role and I quite enjoy that.As for Striker - well firstly, so what if he makes up facts? Okay, when he says "this title has never changed hands in this city" - if that's what you're referring to - yeah, he should be more careful.
You raise a good point, he will probably take over things on Raw. Yes, he comes across at all those things, but his voice (which is not a great TV voice, imo) and the fact he never shuts up really ruins things.Striker comes across as someone who both loves and understands the industry, and in addition he isn't shy of taking a potshot or five at the IWC which I am not going to complain about. Agree to disagree I guess, but as I say, really hope he is on Raw tomorrow! They'll need another colour guy with King busy the next few weeks.
Yes, genuinely brilliant. Reminds me of the old days of Heat when it was Grisham and Coach and they'd talk and talk, knowing **** all people are listening and just saying what they want - dissing the guys in the ring and all that - genuinely entertaining. The commentary on season three of NXT with Cole and Mathews was hilarious.
JR was all for the big match - all for the Austin Vs Taker 'End of an Era' sort of thing (not that match specifically). These days, with the two World titles (which must be unified, imo*) and the useless CeNexus type stipulations, there is just not much worth caring about.I agree entirely with Corrin, I think Striker is excellent for the reasons stated. Similarly I think Michael Cole is good too, has freshened himself up really well. Makes a good alternative to JR, who much as I love him, seems a little dated and out of place on live TV these days.
I would say there is quite a lot worth caring about tbh, also DWTA with the world title thing, see my posts on the matter from a month or so ago for the reasons why.JR was all for the big match - all for the Austin Vs Taker 'End of an Era' sort of thing (not that match specifically). *Let's face it, who is the champion? Who is the current face of WWE? It is the Miz! Edge is holding a useless championship atm, and WWE are devaluing the true champion by suggesting otherwise.
