Think this is just a holiday in the Carribean to be honest, at least that is what I am going to pretend given yesterdays result.

Surrey new signing Zander de Bruyn's excellent SA domestic form's continuing, hit another century today against a decent Cape Cobra attack, he's currently 131 not out.

While we're on the Surrey theme, Shaun Tait has agreed to appear for them as an overseas player in the T20 competition. Should be a useful signing. Still no overseas player for the Championship yet though, apparently initially they were after a spinner to turn the ball away from the right-hander, but now with Tremlett likely to be away with England for a fair chunk of this coming season, a paceman is not out of the equation.

Simon Jones figures currently in the Hants vs Barbados game, 3 overs 2 wickets for 4 runs, very impressive. If, and of course it is a big if, he can remain fit, then maybe a career as a specialist T20 player may be a very good option for him.

Now I'm not a massive T20 fan, yes I'll watch it when it's on and will enjoy the entertainment and the game for what it is. I don't like how it has become a priority in some people's eyes, but that's because I'm quite a traditionalist when it comes to cricket. You need certain skills, but it does not compare to what's required in the longer formats. I am a huge fan of Simon Jones, but would not begrudge him turning his back on the grind of the County Championship to try and earn some quick money while his knee permits.

I generally don't agree with players doing this, as I see it as a very easy option made from players scared of some hard work. Of course the financial aspect I'm sure is difficult to refuse. But in Jones' case, he deserves some luck, and to cash in on the talent he possesses after his rotten misfortune with injuries.

Hants vs Barbados going to a super over, as the match was tied. Each side taking it in turns to try and throw the game away. Crazy.

They need to play Dunn more tbh

Not seen much of him, but I believe the potential is there. With Meaker there aswell there's some promise at Surrey, and in the batting too, it's a case of whether they can develop the potential into something substantial I guess.

Crazy game's finished with Hants reluctantly getting over the line. Jones picked up two more wickets in the super over (to go with four in the normal game), leaving Hants needing only one run in their super over to win. Benn then bowled Ervine (attempting a reverse sweep) first ball meaning they needed only one wicket to tie the super over, and win the game by virtue of hitting more sixes. James Vince survived a couple of close calls before squirting the ball through point for a single.

Benn then sulked off not shaking hands with anyone! What a baby.

I've watched most of the matches so far, and it's been very entertaining....

It just goes to show that you don't need dead batting tracks where mediocre batsmen cart quality bowlers all over the place for a good 20/20 match. That said, teams with big-hitters can post 150+ scores. Former champs Trinidad were very impressive in their demolition of hosts Leewards, with SImmons hitting 83 and Rampaul taking a five-fer. IMHO, they're the team to beat this year....

What's the attendances been like?
I can't see any spectators.

Also, Somerset recording one of the great all-time chokes, and the Leewards opening the bowling with a barn door of a 37-year-old getting them down in the mid 70s at best.

Thrilling.

Hampshire v Leewards was generally awful. The home side were pretty much unable to get the Hants spinners off the square, and Simon Jones was too quick for them when his radar was right. The best bit of cricket was Benny Howell's straight hitting, whilst James Vince's five catches - all at deep cow - equal that particular footnote in the record books.

The attendances have been better for the later games, it seems, however I've been asleep when these have been televised.

The Leewards are easily the worst team in the whole competition, worse than even Canada....

That said, Trinidad struggled to eventually beat Canada, but the Trinis remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament.

Haha **** me that's poor.

Question. Why is Damien Wright only signing for a little while, given that Worcestershire don't have anyone else yet?

what a thrashing that was!

Yes, it was just a six-overs game, but the margins were huge. Marlon Samuels, Danza Hyatt and Shawn Findlay hit boundaries and sixes at will off the hapless Somerset seamers. Only spinner Max Waller caused the Jamaica batsmen any difficulty, and the Somerset fielding effort was abysmal....

And when it came to Somerset's time to bat, their batsmen just couldn't cope with the pace of Jerome Taylor and Krishmar Santokie, and played and missed regularly. Spinner Nikita Miller bowled as well as Waller, while Andre Russell's height made it difficult for the Somerset batsmen to get them away.

Jamaica out-batted, out-fielded, and out-bowled Somerset in this rain-reduced game....

Thanks for the report - until then I'd assumed 85-1 vs 24-8 was a close game in doubt up until the last over.
