He's getting better. Has 10 wickets at 32 this year (3 matches). Hopefully he'll continue to improve. Certainly has all the assets to do so.

I agree, but he needs to keep at it and keep showing improvement. To be blunt, domestic batsmen in New Zealand aren't very good, so even 10 wickets at 32 isn't much to get excited about yet. Does look like he has the raw tools though.

back NZ to win @ the basin Wahab and Gul are not the kind of bowlers who will enjoy these sort of conditions while Tanveer cant pick up wickets in any conditions.
Way to go buddy. I am sure it's going to work this time around as well.

A mix of rain and bad luck meant we couldn't convert against Pakistan and West Indies in their recent tours here. We probably should have won the West Indian one and had the chance to win the Pakistani series.

Beyond that. Jeez NFI I honestly can't remember the last time we won an entire Test series.

As we look at the New Zealand test teams failure thought it was appropriate

NZ batsmen who average 40+ in First Class

Jeet Raval
Anaru Kitchen
Matthew Sinclair
Tim Weston- 39.56 (wk)
J Austin Smelie
Neil Broom
Sam Wells- 39.76
Dean Brownlie
Peter Fulton
Tom Latham (wk)
Jesse Ryder
Kane Williamson
Ross Taylor- 39.7
Derek De Border- 35.9 (wk)- 270 runs @ 54.00 this season

Ignoring the past failures the line up would look something like this

1. Brendon McCullum
2. Jeet Raval
3. Kane Williamson
4. Ross Taylor
5. Jesse Ryder
6. Neil Broom/Anaru Kitchen/Dean Brownlie
7. Tim Weston+/Derek De Border
8. Daniel Vettori

You should go to CricketArchive and check out the real domestic averages. I posted a few a while back but cbf finding them.

Oh, and Weston is a specialist batsman these days Mike. Hasn't kept much in the last few years to my knowledge.
Yeah, I suspected that with Van Wyk taking care of the keeping duties at CD as well. Though De Border seems to be churning out the runs of late. Any Goss on him as a keeper?

Windies in 2006, though they were pretty awful back then, the Windies side of 2008 was probably stronger, and their current side certainly is.

Before that one, we beat a Muraliless Sri Lanka in 2005, and we thrashed India on our garden wickets in 2003.

I think only Gary Kirsten stopped us from beating SA at home in 2004ish - ended up a 1-1 draw IIRC. Seem to remember that as one of our best Test series performances of the decade.
