Yes agree, it's all a bit nonsensical . With all the Oz coaches and influence it was going to be this way, but still, I can't get my head round all the Oz players that have been bought.I haven't followed the entire auction in great detail, but I'm going to post a list of my suspicions about what the conventional wisdom is for the IPL and draw conclusions from it, and see how much of my suspicions are true based on what happens in the auction.
1. Batsmen are over-valued in T20
2. Bowlers are under-valued
3. All rounders are massively over-valued
4. Big hitters are massively over-valued
5. Indians, particularly batsmen, are over-valued (and before anyone jumps in on this point, I understand perfectly well the reasons why Indian batsmen have managed to command such huge salaries in this auction)
6. Australians are over valued
7. English players are under valued
8. Foreign spinners are massively under valued.
Big Bash tournament certainly helps.Yes agree, it's all a bit nonsensical . With all the Oz coaches and influence it was going to be this way, but still, I can't get my head round all the Oz players that have been bought.
There's no real "correct" value for any player - each player goes for what the market deems him to be worth.Geez is somebody correctly valued?
You get loads of spinners in India. Many of the batsman also can put some spin bowlingI haven't followed the entire auction in great detail, but I'm going to post a list of my suspicions about what the conventional wisdom is for the IPL and draw conclusions from it, and see how much of my suspicions are true based on what happens in the auction.
1. Batsmen are over-valued in T20:- It's a batsman' game
2. Bowlers are under-valued:-Same as above[./B]The Indian pacers have got very good deals though
3. All rounders are massively over-valuedThey are handy. They help in giving both depth in batting and bowling. In past if specialist bowlers have been kept they also go for runs. It is these people who can chip in and contribute by more runs
4. Big hitters are massively over-valuedObvious. Entertainment value. More money for Franchisee
5. Indians, particularly batsmen, are over-valued (and before anyone jumps in on this point, I understand perfectly well the reasons why Indian batsmen have managed to command such huge salaries in this auction)You can only have 4 foreign players in playing 11. Hence rest 7 have to be Indian. Hence Indian batsman are in short supply but since they have to be there, great prices. I know you the reasons I put it so that just incase any one wants to know why
6. Australians are over valuedSo many Australian coaches
7. English players are under valued. County season clashes. They also have some series clashing (Not sure on second point though)
8. Foreign spinners are massively under valued.
Plus Rajasthan need Indians.Hmmm..........CSK and KKr have good teams.....Mumbai up with them.......All the teams are equally balanced IMO...xcept for kochi need 2 to 3 Indian batsman....
Ya CSK have their winning team moreover. If DC didnt picked that ****ty Sharma....It's still a decent team..and we have steynn.....Plus Rajasthan need Indians.
Would favour Chennai to take it out again, or Mumbai.
4 players now. WTF. Are these people nutsStupid way to mock people. Ask them back in Bid and then not Bid. 3 players continuously not being bid. Pathetic
I disagree with every reason you've given though, which is why I've drawn the conclusions I have. Apart from the Australian coaches thing - I hadn't thought of that - but IMO the phrase "Australian cricketer" is much like "Brazilian footballer" - although Australia are in decline, there's still an unconscious assumption that a player is better for being Australian. I reckon if you put a random County pro up for auction with a random Australian pro with identical stats, there would be more interest in the Australian player simply because of his nationality. You are right on that. The money offered is not proportional to the talents. The Indian obviously will be preferred. There are reasons for all of them
