This has to be the nadir of NZ test cricket.

Only way us up from here. Our team is better than this.
Are people forgetting we've been doing this sort of thing for years now? Nothings changed

This isn't an aberration like it has been for the Aussies in the last 18mths or so, this is par for the course for NZ

Congrats to Pakistan. Totally out played NZ.

On a side note....how bad has the umpiring been in this game? Shockingly bad.

Well, I can't remember many worse days for NZ in Tests. That was truly horrific.

Well done, Pakistan.

Good start to the year for Pakistan.
What a contrast that must be for the Pakistan players, playing a strong team like SA a month or so ago to playing these chumps  No wonder they were giggling away while chasing those 18 runs

My team for the second test:

Brodie
McCullum
Williamson
Latham
Ryder
de Grandhomme
de Boorder
Bracewell
Astle
Milne
Martin

Wouldn't have scored less than the current lot.

u r forgetting that pak themselves have been prone to such collapses.

Today was dire for NZ. And this was worse than a third rate attack for Pakistan.

Time for NZ to start taking a few risks with selections ffs, they have nothing to lose. I know it was the primarily the batting collapse which was the problem, but our bowling will continue to struggle to take 20 wickets & will allow tail-enders to bully us unless we experiment by bringing some pace in, even if the player is green.

You need pace to intimidate lower order batsmen & with our current attack of 3 right arm mediums & a spinner who can't turn it (and only gets wickets when defeating batsmen in the air & never off the pitch) nothing is going to change.

I'd like to see at least one bolter for Wellington purely for the sake of bringing in a 140+ bowler, either a Boult (if he's quick) a Milne, a Bennett or even a Bracewell, why not ?

Can't believe that caught behind wasn't given. Not that it really mattered in the end

Can you suggest another occassion when we have been humiliated like this by a team not in the top 5 in world cricket in recent years.

Franklin might get a look in for the next test. Doubt anyone other than him will be considered for the second test though.

Some changes might be in order in the long term such as Mcintosh. Can't think of anyone to replace him though tbh. Flynn? I would much rather have him i guess though he has played next to nothing games as an opener. We can't even really change who bats at number 3 because none of Taylor, Ryder, Williamson will have much confidence left after this fiasco.

Reece Young looked OK but he still underperformed with both the gloves and the bat.

Were any of those names put forth in real seriousness?

All I know is having watched Pakistan tour NZ since '93 (regardless of where their side is rated at the time), they seem to humiliate us in at least one test.

In terms of other examples in the last few years, not sure about bottom-ranked sides, but do I really have to remind you that 2nd innings collapses have been par for the course for NZ for years now?

Pakistan is 3-4 in tests since the last year's tour to Australia all tests have been away.Do feel we can crack the top5 if we play few more games in UAE where hopefully we can be bold enough to prepare a dry reverse swing supporting tracks rather then the roads we resort too.
