*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

Agree with Bahnz regarding Guptil.

His inability to turn the strike over created too much pressure, and allowed Pakistan to get on top of New Zealand.

I think his innings was far better than if he'd played 30 (30) with 30 singles, myself. And I'm hardly one to defend Guptill. What let Pakistan get on top of New Zealand was batsmen giving their wickets away. Guptill's strike rotation was terrible but he got the job done better than a lot of his more established comrades today.

The likes of Guppy needed to be watching Cook over the summer & the way he has a basic game that he doesn't deviate away from & plays the percentages. Most of our batsmen ( despite some decent performances in India) still don't know how to bat for any length of time.

Only in the scorebooks. I never got the feeling Pakistan were on top except maybe at the very start.

McCullum, Ryder, Williamson, Southee (!) and yes, Guptill, showed that the conditions were good for batting and save for a couple of brain explosions and a freak run out, it would've been NZ's day.

Will give credit where it's due though, Pakistan built pressure beautifully and cracked the NZ batting like a nut. The ball to get McIntosh was very good also.

Thoughts on Young? I can see why he's batted at three for Auckland. Beautiful technique. Should average at least 30 for NZ.

AWTA. Couple of brainfarts and a bit of hard luck aside, they've all played well.

Never seen him bat tbh & missed his LBW dismissal. Did he play back to the spinner?

Way too early to say, but hopefully. Even if he just averages 25, we'd take that as a big plus if McCullum continues to average around 50 at the top.

Sweeping, and the call was a bit dodge. Played well until that point however. Looks seriously solid and his strokeplay is great. Even if he sucks, at least it will be pretty sucking.

I didn't see Vettori's dismissal but, Young was hard done by, Taz indeed got a good un but the rest were out to themselves. Don't get this pressure thing everyones talking about, the batsmen seemed at ease. Guptill looked more disinterested in playing the spinner than being tied down.

Well sounds more promising than the big GH then. Seen much of his keeping?

I missed all but the last 40 mins or so today, but what I gathered from most reports it that generally the batsman got themselves out & failed to rotate strike at times, but nothing about 'pressure'

A substantial batting partnership between Williamson and Southee, surely test cricket doesn't get any better then that? :p
