Indian Domestic Season 2010-11

Pankaj Singh has not done too well before last season, tbf to the selectors and this year did take place in the Plate League. However, on the back of two strong seasons, especially if he can continue his form in this match (and the semis and final, though I doubt they will beat Mumbai) and then on to the Duleep Trophy, he should definitely be looking at Test consideration. It is annoying, the selectors pick these absolute rookies and here, you have a several season veteran, who is still in his mid 20s and is a giant of a man and from what I have heard, is not some sort of 115kph trundler, either.
I thought Rajasthan played in the Super League this season? Hasn't Pankaj Singh thus played in the Super League this year?

No, I'm quite sure they qualified through getting to the Plate League semi finals, or however the hell it works.

Rajasthan were in Plate until they won the semis of the Plate League, and eventually came into the Super League quarters. They're into the Super League only now. Pankaj Singh has played one game so far in Super League.

I wonder what will happen to the Haryana/TN game. Most of it has been obscured by fog.

Pretty impressive for Tamil Nadu to get through considering the fog. They had to score at a decent rate to qualify.

 @ Mumbai missing by the way.

Rahane top scored for Mumbai again both in the first innings scoring 60 and in the second innings scoring a 102 of 69 balls.

He is now averaging 69 in FC cricket and 41 in List A cricket. IIRC, Was second best behind Pujara along with Mukund in the India a tour to Britain too.

What more does he need to do to get into the ODI team atleast,if not the test team?

Also impressed by Amit Verma in both innings. The first time i have seen him live.
Looked good and will keep a track on him from now.

Rahane probably needs another season to challenge Gambhir and Vijay, but the kid is a friggin gun.

He is a number 3 batsmen, though he can open if required so don't see him as a challenge to Gambhir/Vijay.

He is more vying for the spot in the middle order and should have been in the ODI Team by now.

Can't see how Rohit Sharma is ahead of him at the moment, playing for the same state team too.

Abhinav Mukund will be the challenge for Gambhir and Specially Vijay (who was strangely for me picked ahead of him) in the future.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

He is a middle order batsman, but I guess my point was though that even though he's a middle order batsman, Pujara looks pretty safe at the moment. I guess if Dravid went he'd be a chance along with Kohli, Badrinath and Sharma, who should all be ahead of Raina by now.

It all depends on how long Dravid goes on for I guess.

Poor Chap.

Don't know what wrong did he do in the 2 tests against South Africa to be axed so unceremoniously.

The selectors kept picking Yuvraj ahead of him and now after giving him a hint of a chance dropped him despite scoring a very good and gritty fifty in one of 3 innings when everyone was falling like nine pins.

What's worse is they are not picking him for A tours too currently.
Will go down as one of the worst treated cricketers in Indian cricket.

As for Rahane i was more referring to the ODI team currently and Rohit again being given a shot ahead of him for the 3rd time now.

In the test team Pujara definately deserved his chance ahead of him.

Yeah Badrinath was a little stiff, but considering Yuvraj (again) and Raina have been shown up, and Pujara (who I think is possibly better than Badrinath, and will be better for India in the long run), it didn't work out all that badly.

I think what has helped him this season ,is the emergence of Chahar too.

He used to carry the Rajasthan bowling almost all by himself.

But now with Chahar taking wickets as well as being economical he has good support and it helps build pressure from both ends.

Chahar despit all the hublahoo about his first match has done reasonably well since getting 32 wickets at a average of 21 and a strike rate of 36.7.

Also with Kanitkar and Chopra their batting has started to build pressure.

Did Chahar only bowl 3 overs in the 3rd innings against Mumbai because Kanitkar knew that Rajasthan were already through, and he didn't want to tire Chahar, and risk injury?

Or is Chahar injured?

He was totally clueless in his last innings when Steyn was getting it to reverse and almost looked like he didn't belong at that level. But yeah, should have got more chances.

Badrinath looked like a deer in headlights, but I think the point is you can't judge him alone on that I think. But I agree, it wasn't a good look.

Scored a good 50 in his first test though.

That innings i think he was a bit lax because India was cruising anyways and needed to score quick runs.

He scored a crucial fifty in the first test though where everyone except Sehwag fell like Nine pins to Steyn and Co. and looked Worse than what he did in the second test.

Beside There have been many succesful players who did not look great in their first series .

He is top scoring in the Ranji again this season.

He won't look a million bucks when he is in top form too ,will badri but ultimately scoring runs is more important than looking good.
Sanjay Manjrekar should show you that.

Found this piece in a Cricinfo article abou chucking and age manipulation in domestic cricket-

The notorious schools that had a record of playing overage boys - and their names are known - ended up making a mockery of the tournament and the BCCI had to suspend it.

The most obvious case of age manipulation involves an India international who played in U-14, U-16 and U-19 tournaments within a span 11 months. After playing his U-14 state match at the age of 13 in 2001, he played U-17 and U-19 within a year at the age of 14. And at 17, he even played a Test in 2006. From then on, age seemed to catch up with this prodigious talent and between then and now, he's only played one more Test.

Has to be Piyush Chawla?
So is he older than 22?

There are better examples, if can be caught- like a certain U-19 fast bowler who was tipped as someone blazingly quick, made his debut for his State side in 2005, and within a year, played his first Test in 2006. Ever since, injuries have caught up with him, his fitness has been far from exemplary and his speed nowhere near where he was touted to be. He has eventually played five Tests and struggles to represent even his state side.

Let's now look at teams that didn't make it to the semis. Delhi, for instance, had a target of three Ranji finals in five years. They've missed out on this one. A full-strength Delhi can be formidable, though that's often wishful thinking. Imagine this- Sehwag and Gambhir opening, with a middle-order of Dhawan, Manhas and Kohli, bowlers Ishant, Nehra, Narwal (run-scoring option), Sangwan (another run-scoring option) and new spinner Vikas Mishra among the top performers. Except for the lack of spin options and three lesser players in the mix, this is a strong team. But that's the catch- once the international players are gone, this is a much weaker side. The replacements are not really up to the mark, and superior domestic boss teams dominate them. That's happened this time around as well. While Mumbai have had few India regulars (only Sachin and Zaheer) in their ranks, the second line has stepped up well for them- this season being an aberration. Then there's that spin attack, which needs to be worked on, quickly.
