Let's now look at teams that didn't make it to the semis. Delhi, for instance, had a target of three Ranji finals in five years. They've missed out on this one. A full-strength Delhi can be formidable, though that's often wishful thinking. Imagine this- Sehwag and Gambhir opening, with a middle-order of Dhawan, Manhas and Kohli, bowlers Ishant, Nehra, Narwal (run-scoring option), Sangwan (another run-scoring option) and new spinner Vikas Mishra among the top performers. Except for the lack of spin options and three lesser players in the mix, this is a strong team. But that's the catch- once the international players are gone, this is a much weaker side. The replacements are not really up to the mark, and superior domestic boss teams dominate them. That's happened this time around as well. While Mumbai have had few India regulars (only Sachin and Zaheer) in their ranks, the second line has stepped up well for them- this season being an aberration. Then there's that spin attack, which needs to be worked on, quickly.
