Its just when you see players like Stuart Broad pushing 145ks at times it begs the question of wtf our bowling coaches are doing. Mills and Tuffey have lost 5ks and are hardly over 130 these days. They are in the twilight of their careers though i guess. Will be interesting to see If Bond can deliver on the whole "Milne will be a 150k bowler."

Mason wouldn't have gotten spanked at international level IMO if his cards fell another way that would have got him more international chances. Arnel doesn't have that great a domestic record
102 @ 24. He'd have to have one of the best domestic records in the country.

Thought he had been around for 5ish, I'll withdraw my complaint.
Technically he has :p But he made his first class debut at the end of the 05-06 season and only played in half of the games during the 06-07 season.

1) Michael Mason would have been fine if he'd been given more chances in tests.

2) He was mid to high 130s back in the day, and he can't exactly be hanged for bowling 125-132 at 36 years of age.

EDIT: 3) Brent Arnel is a decent bowler. Even the resident quickie reckons he's decent.:p

One of my fav players.

I remember in a 20 20 against Bangers they had Flem wired up. And Mason walks up to him and goes how should I bowl. Flem said back of length with the odd bouncer.

So Mason bowls exactly like that and gets smacked around by Ashraful. It was getting to the point where Mason needed to bowl some yorkers or full deliveries but he stuck with back of a length for his four overs.

Not sure who to blame.

His blackcap days are long since past but he looked decent when he last played.

Great servant of NZ cricket. Hope he keeps going till 38 or so.

Remember the exact same tactic working on the Bangladeshis in another game too, but that example above doesn't help Mug's star there Hurricane.

I have always like Mason - here is a better example. We were once playing on a pitch with a slim line of green grass just outside of off stump. Mason decided he would land the ball on the strip of grass to maximise seam movement. He landed it there consistently at will. It was a phenomenal display.

Yeah, I love watching him bowl. There hasn't been a smarter seamer in New Zealand than the Mug in the last ten years.

Somehow i think Shane Bond would disagree with you there.

New Zealand v Pakistan: Brendon McCullum likely to miss first two Twenty20s | Cricket News | New Zealand v Pakistan | ESPN Cricinfo

McCullum likely to miss at least the first 20/20 and probably the second. It is only 20/20 so you say there is no point risking him getting injured or causing further injury for the test series.
Bond was clever, and easily the better bowler, but watching them bowl I always thought the Mug was cleverer.
