You said herald not the times :p

I wouldn't agree with dropping Taylor. I don't think it would serve any purpose at all

Article in NZ herald today calling for Taylor to be dropped

Any thoughts on this?
Ross Taylor may not be performing as well as he should in one day cricket (I assume this is for one day cricket?) but the sad fact is he is New Zealand's best one day batsmen and has been over the last 18 or so months even though he's only averaging low 30's and hasn't hit a 100 during this period. There isn't a player in the country that they could bring in that's going to out perform him over an extended period of time. I know this, you know this and Ross Taylor knows this, that's the unfortunate problem with having so very little depth. Unless players like Taylor actually push themselves to become world class players they'll usually get away with doing very little but still have a very long career.

Yeah, i agree we actually do not have many candidates to put up as an ideal replacement to the current NZ batsmen anyway. The names that have been thrown around recently like Broom, Brownlie, Sinclair and Fulton are all ok but nothing special (I actually have not seen much of Brownlie though). Any others?

Virat Kohli's a better option then Yuvraj if they're batting in the top four, on recent form anyway.
I think the one in most trouble in that line up if Kohli were to play would be Raina. Yuvraj is a useful bowler and with a strong batting line up he can be of more use to the team even if Raina is a better player.

Yuvraj Singh is an absolute must in the ODI side. When he is in-form, he is India's most destructive limited overs player bar none. The chances of a fit Yuvraj not making the final eleven are zilch.

If Virat Kohli has to be accomodated, then Suresh Raina has to miss out. I don't see that happening either; Suresh Raina is a very useful player down the order. It may sound harsh on Virat Kohli, who has been playing extremely well over the last year, but that is how things stand. Still, he should make the final fifteen.

He'll make the squad but is probably 50/50 for making the XI:

Depends whether we want a fifth bowler really.
Yeah there's no way in hell Kohli won'tmake the squad. He's basically sixth in batting pecking order if you don't count Dhoni - there definitely isn't a team in the world who won't be taking who they consider to their sixth best batsman. Personally I'm pretty much at the stage now where I'd pick him ahead of Raina even if I wanted five bowlers.

Raina is a great ODI player, particularly in the subcontinent. India would be mad to drop him.

Don't let his latest test failures get in the way of his fantastic ODI record.

My Indian XI:

Sachin
Sehwag
Gambhir
Yuvraj
Raina
Kohli
Dhoni
Harbhajan/Ashwin
Praveen
Zaheer
Nehra

Fantastic batting depth, and in India, Yuvraj and Raina can fill in the overs.

It's not like Kohli doesn't have a great ODI record either, though. And if you're picking five bowlers, Raina's bowling doesn't really matter much.

I'd go with that team anyway though - with Harbhajan preferred to Ashwin.

Would play Ashwin instead of Praveen if PK looks woefully out of form.

Don't really love the idea of having two specialist spinners if you're going in with four bowlers and all your part-time options are spinners, even in the subcontinent. I'd play Ohja ahead of Ashwin too unless I was playing five bowlers (where Ashwin's batting would be more relevant).

Jadeja should make the squad atleast. His good solid consistent contributions are often overlooked simply because of his disastrous T20 abilities and his ****up in the 175 game. That and he has the most punchable face ever.
