Battle of the Ashes Moments

BoyBrumby

Englishman
Trumper & Fred.

Nasser's was a great knock tho; I remember his sometime Essex teammate and Ashes competitor Mark Waugh saying afterwards he'd never realised Nass was that good a player.

I won't vote for the Aussie moments easily but Thommo gets this one. If bowling was music, Thommo would be Jimi Hendrix.

Thommo.

WAC - still laugh in that clip at around the three minute mark when he hits that poor Sri Lankan bloke on the toe at the 75 WC, and as the poor bugger hobbles away, Thommo picks up the ball and shies at the stumps.
At 5.40 in this clip, there's some great 74-75 stuf from Thommo. I commend the four byes at about 5.40 to you... Two bounces into the fence at fine leg. Serious heat.

Not sure if this counts as an Ashes moment, since it wasn't during the actual tests, but my uncle (who loves every sport in existance) took me to one of the one day internationals between England vs Australia just before the 97 series, at Lords, aged 8.

Fell in love with everything instantly, mostly due to my uncle's hilarious descriptions of each Australian player (every single one was 'demonlike', and for some weird reason my uncle worshiped Bevan, lol). Saw Warne and Mcgrath up close, getting hammered by Ben Hollioake (RIP) who scored something like 65 of 40 balls in hs debut, was amazing to watch and instantly got me hooked on cricket.

I also remember eating duck at a restaurant in the ground, and vomiting not long after. Probably the most vivid young memory I have.

Ended up watching the test series after that, saw Hussain's 207 which essentially sealed the deal. Loved cricket ever since.

Anyway, thats how a random Irish bloke came to be posting on this forum.

edit: Just realised what this thread actually is. ****, lol. Headley then, always rated him, deserves some love.

Norwood's on Fire
Reminds me of when Burgey had names for the England team last year. They all had a derogatory name, Strauss was bounce-catch, Broad was ladyboy etc and then Bopara was Ravi

Thommo for two reasons - first he was a great bowler at his peak - much more so than he's ever given credit for - second the sound track to that clip reminded me that The Saints were a bit special back in the day
