As much as I'd like them too, I don't think the Windies have much chance of winning this series.

However - If key players like Russell, Roach, Barath and lil Bravo perform the future will look a lot brighter for the Windies with four young guns to mould the team around. So this is certainly an incredibly important series.

As for NZ, i know it must hurt being below us in the test rankings but you need to get over it, the table doesn't lie.
So when this comes back and bites you in the arse and SL hammer WI 3-0 - I trust that means you'll shut up about how WI are better than NZ.

Personally, I don't have much of a problem with Sammy being selected as captain. After all, Gayle and Big Bravo turned down contract offers, so IMHO they're ineligible. Sarwan doesn't seem to be taking his fitness regimes seriously, so he can't lead, obviously. I also don't have a problem with Sarwan, Taylor and Deonarine being omitted for failing to follow Gibson's fitness regimes. It's time to get discipline back into WI cricket....

Baugh for keeper? Well, Ramdin's batting has deteriorated, and maybe it's time to give Baugh a final chance. Our full strength team would lose to SL anyway, so why not give this group a shot?

Good to see Dowlin and Rampaul have been omitted from the test team too....

NZ have the tour of India at the same time and if we get white washed we'll still be a point or two below. If we draw a match or win one I think we'll move above them though.

Yes I absolutely agree with the majority of this. I'm surprised the Sarwan omission has been met with anger in some parts. It's pretty simple, if he ain't fit enough, is overweight, or whatever, and he is not pulling his weight to get this sorted then he shouldn't be included. England have the same thing with Samit Patel, he as clearly overweight as he is a real talent, but he has to meet the management half way, stop being lazy and get in trim!

Electing a new captain is as difficult a job for WI as it is for Pakistan, there are very alternative candidates, and someone has to do it. Gayle and Bravo absolutely have to be discarded from the list of names to do the job after rejecting the contract offer.

Fleming > Crowe as captain? Convince me.
Player Span Mat Won Lost Tied Draw W/L %W %L
JJ Crowe 1987-1988 6 0 1 0 5 0 0 16.66
MD Crowe 1990-1993 16 2 7 0 7 0.28 12.5 43.75
SP Fleming 1997-2006 80 28 27 0 25 1.03 35 33.75

Pretty obvious for mine... (pick your Crowe, but I meant Martin)...

I'd almost say that during his reign as skipper Fleming was almost the best going around, extracting so much from the cattle he had on the park.

Not a hint of rockstar about him.

The Sarwan dropping wasn't solely about fitness though. That's just the excuse. He was the one leading the Guyana players in standing up to their board.

From another thread, we were told this earlier today.

Call me a cynic but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, and I'm not so sure this squad will turn out to be a cordon bleu dish...
To be honest you'd have to be pretty dumb to relate what i said in that post to the squad the SELECTORS have selected for the tour of SL!! 8-) , the board and the selectors are two different things, like i said before the board set up the youth academy with English coaches leading it, brought back the A-team, got ESPN to air our T20's, have got strict with players taking the p/ss with their fitness i.e Sarwan and Deonarine, they communicate with the fans via facebook and are are talking to sponsors about getting a new shirt deal, plus we now get live radio and video coverage of our regional games.

What Clyde Butts (the head of the selectors) and his pals do is all together a different thing, if we end up getting embarrassed them they will be the ones to blame, as for the team, Butts said the plan is to start drawing games at first and when that can be achieved we can focus on winning tests!!, so for the tour of SL they've decided to pack it with some alrounders to sure up our tail, my team would be.

Gayle
Barath
Darren Bravo
Chanders
Nash
Dwayne Bravo
Sammy
Russell
Thomas
Benn/Shilly
Roach

Russell is almost like Pollard down the order but with more control, plus he's a pacer of great promise havng performed so well in England for the A-team recently, Thomas can also bat well too, Benn is banned for the first test so it's likely to be Shilly with Gayle helping him out in the spin department,

I'd be more comfortable with Sarwan in the team but Darren Bravo could be a world beater if he continues to progress so why not give him a chance? th option is still there to call Sarwan and Deonarine for the 2nd test if we lose heavily in the first so i'm not too worried.
