*Official* New Zealand in Bangladesh 2010

Vettori's statements are fine there. He may have said other stuff that is arrogant, but those two quotes are fine.

Morrison's line that "Bangladesh haven`t improved" is crap, tbh. The evidence of their improvement is there for all but the blind to see.

Again, don't see anything wrong with those statements. Had New Zealand nullified Shakib they would've won the series comfortably. They didn't, and epic fail ensued.
Yeah most likely. But it's such an arrogant thing to say - and not like Vettori at all. It's all well and good to say " we nullify player x and where a good chance" but to say "we nullify player x and we'll win" just comes across as ****y imo, and rather disrespectful.

Never a good idea to imply that the opposition are a one-man team. Uncharacteristic from Vettori.

Again, not against a side that had won one out of sixteen in 2010, imo.

Nah, was stuck doing uni work for most of the day. What did he say?
Basically that they all have poor techniques. According to John Morrison it's a bad thing to be comfortable in your stance. Then when Deaker said he was disappointed that they hadn't been playing Williamson prior to the fourth ODI he said the New Zealand coaches obviously didn't feel he was up to it and that they had ironed out some deficiencies he had during this tour.

Guess they resurfaced in his last innings

Yeah well, I'm sure it would be much more comfortable for a New Zealand supporter to believe that this series has been a symptom of Bangladesh's development as opposed to New Zealand's decline, but I don't see it. Yes Bangladesh have improved, but prior this this series, all they had succeeded in doing was on average reduce the margin of defeat from "thrashing" to "well beaten". I find it hard to believe that it's all suddenly clicked into place in such spectacular fashion. I guess the proof will be in the pudding, if they continue to consistently post wins at home over top class opponents, then I'll accept I'm wrong. Not holding my breath though.

Vettori's comments were unacceptable. No matter how true, he under-estimated the other 10 players in the Bangladesh side and most of them had their moments. It probably spurred them on. Shuvo, Kayes, Nafees, Rubel, Razzak. They all had their moments too. And saying they'd win the series and being wrong, well he deserves all of the backlash to be honest. The team does. When you say that and don't deliver then I feel well in my rights as should most of NZ be to criticize their inept performance.

Deaker might be worth a watch too. Haha. Will prolly be more about the rugby squad tho :(

Radio Sport was funny on the way home. Some funny calls. Warren Lees made some good points. Matt Gunn was gun.

Lol Murray Deaker. Epic fail. Williamson's technique is gun.

Gunn is a tosser, but what did Lees have to say?

Stuff about the experienced players not stepping up, he said people who praise the team when they perform (and the players are happy when they do) have every right to criticize them when they don't perform (and the players have to live with it), that the black caps don't play too much cricket - it's the opposite if anything (ignoring the IPL etc), the stupid way our batsmen went about the chase, etc.

Were some heated calls today lol.

Geoff Alllot will be on in the next half hour.

Yeah we lost by less than 10 runs on three ocassions but apart from the 1st Game we didn't deserve to win - if you can't chase down 170 you are weak at batting. I won't hand in my supporters flag but this is our lowest moment. This thread is depressing - people comparing us to Zimbos. Flem having to defend us by saying but you should see us at home. I figure that if we stick by the team now our future successes will mean more to us.

I think the good things to take away from this is that we gave Williamson a run and we should stick with him. If we are going to lose to India lets lose with him in the lineup. I think Watling has major questions around him as an ODI player. I have the feeling that if we had've stuck with Guptil we might have seen better results.

So yeah if nothing else comes from this series but the establishment of Williamson in the team I will be happy. If he gets put into the waiting wings for scoring that duck then the series is a disaster which has led to some of the more polite posters on this forum ignoring this thread rather than stating their views.

I also think the batting approach last night was screwed up...it was like Greatbatch said lets go win this in a hurry. It wasn't until we had lost wickets that we batted sensibly.

In terms of the question is this a case of NZ sucking or Bangers improving. It is both. Bangers never used to post 240 in a first inning or chase down 170 runs for the loss of three or four wickets. They have come along way. Shakibs century was awesome,

Finally - I think we lost because we didn't take Bangers seriously. I don't think other sides will lose to Bangers at home as easily because they will learn from our mistakes.

Why is this bad? We are a good team and we're very good at home. One series loss, even against Bangladesh, does not change that. We are simply a poor side against quality spin, which at the ODI level Bangladesh have in abundance.

People are comparing us with Zimbabwe because they are overreacting, simple as. If Zimbabwe had the results we've achieved in the past couple of years, fair enough, but they're not even close. Add to that our A team just wiped the floor with their A team on their own turf, I think there is still a very considerable gap between the two sides.

I agree, Williamson looks the goods. Guppy though is in **** form for NZ A and should not be in the ODI side atm.

I agree, though Greatbatch's role in this is hard to quantify. His history as a coach is very poor, but Ryder and McCullum are hired as dashers so being 10/2 will happen occassionally. You could argue it is cause to move one of them somewhere else in the order, but then we do lose a bit of the electric starts they can get when both are up there. The middle order shot selection was very suspect though I agree. At least Taylor looks in some sort of form, Elliott found a few runs, and Williamson got that ton.

Bangladesh have been posting decent totals for a wee while now, but yeah, they're on the up and we tripped up big time.

Finally - I think we lost because we didn't take Bangers seriously. I don't think other sides will lose to Bangers at home as easily because they will learn from our mistakes.
Dunno tbh. Maybe the first game but after that I'm pretty sure they got a move on. We were simply outdone from the start I reckon.
