There are a whole lot of stories, sides and opinions to this story.

But one thing that, no matter who you listen to, seems to definitely be the case, is that the post-Warne and McGrath team seemed to not be the sort of team culture that Symonds liked. I reckon he just didn't fit in with the professionalism and "cricket is our job" culture that now exists within the Australian lineup.

Money-gate was just the catalyst for it all coming to light.

Showing up to games drunk, and going on fishing trips when scheduled team meetings are on has never been accepted though. As with his last transgression just a few days after arriving in England (when he drinking at 10am in the morning while watching an Origin game in contravention of an agreement he signed prohibiting him from drinking outside the team environment) he didn't want to be there so people (not directed at you Jono) are wasting their time saying he was hard done by or didn't fit in.

100% agree.

Never liked Symonds as a person (from my p.o.v, before Social says anything. Obviously I don't know the guy) but from everything I read, it seems to me that he just didn't feel comfortable. I reckon that's completely his fault, and no one else's. But I think it was a factor.

At the end of the day, he's probably not someone you want your Steve Smith's and Phil Hughes' learning from.

Well, I would guess it isn't everything for most players around the world but the definition of everything, for Symonds, seems to mean "I will show up when I want to, do what I want to and play on with whatever state of drunk I am"... Again, that is my getting of the guy but I will be hugely surprised if it weren't the truth.. He just seems to equate discipline with "cricket is everything"...

I think people are blowing his attitude and indiscretions out of proportion. He wasn't perfect but he wasn't a monster either.

Nah.. just stating that while he is still earning big bucks by playing T20 and moving out of the Aussie set up, it is still not as much as he would have earned had he been playing IPL PLUS international cricket.. And hence the point about Bhajji.. Come on, lets not act as if the guy has made the greatest decision ever.. Yes, he is earning money but he is not exactly doing something amazing smart coz he is not really earning his paycheque in the IPL is he? Will be interesting to see what he goes for this time in the auction.

Very possibly... I hate the guy and think he is ****.. So obviously, my opinion must be pretty biased. But still, I would really think, from the few times I met him too, that he is just a lazy bugger who wants to play cricket on his terms and not on the team's terms... A bit of success at the international level seems to have gotten to his head.

Had more than a bit of success, tbf. Was easily among the top ODI players in the world for a long time.

yeah.. fair to say he was the leading or at least one of the leadng ODI players around for a while.. Rephrase it to bit of success in test cricket and a lot of success in ODI cricket..

Since I am new I don't know if anyone has told the Aussie guys that what Bhajji said was "maan ki" which in Hindi means "your mom's" (don't know if he ssaid the rest :P). The reason I believe this version is because Sachin was behind Bhajji. Whether this is as serious as racial abuse is another matter

As a related aside, if Symonds swore off the pop and scored some runs for QLD (not sure he even plays for em anymore, actually, but anyway) would any of the Aussies have him in their test side?
