White would bat at 3, too, that's what happened last time Clarke captained I think. Worked well, too.

When and how was Tait injured? Don't recall this for some reason.
In the champions league. He had an elbow niggle that was troubling him for a while and eventually it got worse and now Tait is having surgery, he is due back in December.

When was Tait fit?
Haha, he actually had a decent period on the field after he retired from first class cricket for the Redbacks. Since then he has played nearly all the short format games for the Redbacks and more recently the CL and the ODI's and 2020's against Pak and England.

He's busy preparing for the biggest assignment of his career.

The HRV Cup!

Tbf he is picking the wrong team, so it makes it harder for him to get to the CL.

Though if he bowls badly he'll blend right in with those Cantabrian piechuckers.

I'd take all of the following bowlers from NSW ahead of Starc in a one dayer presuming full fitness:

Bollinger
Lee
Hauritz
Bracken
Clark
Copeland
Hazelwood
Watson

Cameron would be a 50/50 call.

Admittedly, very few of those players are actually fit, but surely the other states must have a couple of bowlers. :p
It's crazy when you consider NSW still have Henriques, ****ley, O'Keefe as players who have gone on Australian tours.

Regarding players from other states - Nathan Rimmington and John Hastings are unlucky.

Forgot about Hastings, he can consider himself unlucky. It isn't like he hasn't been playing cricket either, played in the CL so it's obvious he has recovered fully from that shoulder injury.

Cutting probably would of been a big shout to providing he wasn't injured.

In response to andyc (I think) who pointed out that last time we were here we also won with a similarly depleted side:

I would point out that Watson and Ponting were instrumental in that. Watson is the one of, if not the best ODI player in the world ATM, and Ponting still has it in this format. Johnson is less effective in ODIs than tests, true.

Srsly, class player and all that but in a way it's the dumbest selection ever.

Bennett, Sherlock and Anderson are not known for their clean injury records. In fact, Sherlock barely plays any cricket at all.

So who do they pick as their overseas player?:p

Will be absolutely awesome if Tait comes in full form though. Blokes like Brad Wilson were backing away from Shane Bond last year. I think Tait might kill someone. Can't wait.

Haha yeah, But I expect Tait to be match fit by that time, obviously that doesn't mean much when you are Shaun Tait because you can break down at any time.

I don't the NZ crowds will treat Australian players in their domestic competition nicely will they? Especially profile ones like Tait. Pitches aren't slow in either in NZ so yeah expect Tait to wreck havoc.

Ok, so most in the ether know by now that I've been calling for North to be dropped for ages

In fact, this is my record

1. Supported inclusion vs SA

Result: One of the best debut centuries in history

2. Advocated dropping vs Pakistan at home

Result: Horror series

3. Advocated dropping vs NZ as runs wouldnt mean much (sorry Kiwis)

Result: Runs and retention

4. Advocated dropping vs Pakistan away

Result: Horror series

5. Advocated dropping vs India away for first test

Result: Horror match

So far, so good

Anyway, if it comes down to a straight choice between North and Smith for the second test, I'd pick the former every day of the week atm as he is due a score, far more likely to ton up, and his bowling was largely irrelevant in the first test

North vs Hughes is a different matter

Reckon the latter is made for India and could well kick arse but my feeling is that the selectors will only look at the "all-round" option

I think he'll kill Auckland tbh. In the final last year on a very quick wicket Mason and Napier had a field day. Several dudes got rings on the helmet iirc, and that was a side with several Black Cap batsmen and ex-batsmen.

The crowds will love and hate him tbh. Canterbury will love him, but everyone else is a lottery. Fans might give him stick but then he might bowl faster at their batsmen, which would be very bad.

But if he has an off day he is in for it, though Brett Lee if he signs for Wellington will cop the most by far. He is hated in this part of the world due to the McCullum beamers.

No way. North is a lost cause, even if he gets a 100, it will just mean there will be another 10 failed performances until his next one. I say pick Smith for the second test. There are no guarantees he will perform well, but who really cares? The series at best will be a draw, the Indians have already retained the trophy, and Aus are 4th in the test rankings. The way I see it, we have nothing really to lose and should be making most of the opportunity to experiment before the ashes.

I know I'm late to the party, but Laxman WAG! Amazing finish to an entertaining match. It's probably been said a hundred times, but I wish this was not just a 2 match series!

What's the point in organizing a 3 match series when you know that after 2 matches one team will get an unassailable lead :p

Let this series end quickly and let's look forward to more even contests (Ind-SA and the Ashes) :p

Hell of a game though, wow. Having watched pretty much all of the first three days, I was annoyed at having to head to Sydney yesterday to see the folks for my birthday.
belated birthday wishes andyc. hope you had a blast.

Ind v Aus 2010: Injured Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma out of second Test | Cricket News | India v Australia | Cricinfo.com

Feel bad about gambhir's injury. sehwag, gambhir, dravid, sachin, laxman and dhoni is a dream batting line up. would love to see it come together as many times as possible before the oldies go away into sunset one by one.

Super game. Congrads to India!

VVS is an artist to be honest...

Also feel for Australians here...they did put up a tremendous show. Almost had this one in the bag but a bit unlucky i must say.
