I'm gonna be honest and say that I don't think I'd pick Starc in a full-strength NSW Second XI. Promising cricketer but he's been shown some serious faith at this point.
Completely agree. How he gets the nod over Copeland all the time is ridicolous IMO and Copeland is from NSW to..

Clint McKay was pretty good last Indian ODI series, so I'm quite happy he's kept his place.

No Watson is always a huge blow to our chances as without him it really stuffs up the balance of our side as none of the other batsman selected can bowl really apart from Clarke.

I would love it if Ferguson gets a crack at batting 3 in a few of the matches, I never like seeing M Clarke coming in at 3.

Smith can bowl. Hopes could also bat in the top seven, although I agree he's not a "batsman" as such.

Watson being out will hurt because he's a gun but I don't think Australia should have too many problems balancing the team when Hopes, Smith and Clarke are all in the squad.

Big wraps on him but many of the guys selected would be better off playing Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup/<insert temporary sponsor here> 4 day cricket which, if I'm not mistaken, starts this week

Would've been a good way for him to get more match fit IMO.
Nah. Siddle playing the Shield match on Oct 10-13 and Oct 25-28 would be better for him and Australia. He's way better at Tests compared with OD anyway.

Haha yeah it's crazy but then again last year Holland and ****ley got selected, where are they now?

I can semi understand your disgust regarding the longer format, but no way does Copeland deserve a spot in the ODI squad, he's played 2 matches in his career!

As I mentioned above, think Oz fc season starts soon so no reason to ship him out to the other side of the world when same conditioning could be had closer to home

I'd take all of the following bowlers from NSW ahead of Starc in a one dayer presuming full fitness:

Bollinger
Lee
Hauritz
Bracken
Clark
Copeland
Hazelwood
Watson

Cameron would be a 50/50 call.

Admittedly, very few of those players are actually fit, but surely the other states must have a couple of bowlers. :p

Cheers .

It's a shame Tait's injured for this ODI series because it would of been great watching him bowl to the Indian batsmen in his current form.
He's busy preparing for the biggest assignment of his career.

The HRV Cup!

Tbf he is picking the wrong team, so it makes it harder for him to get to the CL.

Though if he bowls badly he'll blend right in with those Cantabrian piechuckers.

Prince, who was the guy that got a stack of wickets at the end of last season with basically no pedigree?

Yeah, I was pretty much referring to the longer formats. It really annoyed me when Starc was picked for this test series ahead of bowlers like Copeland and not to mention when he got the nod over Copeland for the Australia A first class games against Sri Lanka. I just don't see how anybody can say he is a better bowler then Copeland, he is only a few years younger then him and Copeland is a better batsmen to.

Deafinitely agree about the ODI spot though, Starc has him covered there at the moment.

Yeah the key is if Clarke can get through some tidy overs. I don't think we'll see either Hopes or Smith in the top 6, so it will mean numbers 7 to 11 plus Clarke will need to get through 50 overs so it could get messy for Smith or one of the young quicks at times.

I think we'll go for this team - I don't necessarily like the balance of the top 3..
1. Marsh 2. Paine 3. Clarke 4 White 5 Ferguson 6 Hussey 7 Hopes 8 Smith 9 Hauritz 10 McKay 11 Bollinger

I'm amazed at what's happened to Bracken. Was just 18 months ago he was one of the best ODI bowlers in the world, wasn't it?

Smith bats above Hopes IIRC. Two pace attack only?

Smith at 8 would be dire. Really he should bat in the top 7 or not play IMO.

And yeah that top three really is dire - not individually, but as a unit. I think we'd need to pick Warner.
