*Official* Australia in India 2010

Yeah, and that makes no sense based on the evidence from this Test.
Mentally shattered is what I think he's getting at. The spirit won't be there.

I disagree, obviously. We've had tight defeats before and not crumbled. Thinking Ricky Ponting and Trent Bridge here - he plays an innings like that and he can stay in the side (but not the captaincy) for quite a while. That was an extraordinary knock, one of his best.

Whether he fails or not, Sharma deserves another chance for his efforts, especially now since his confidence will be sky-high.
Nope

No matter how well he batted, he is selected as a front-line pace bowler and he showed himself to be well below international standard in this match again

Advantage India if he is out

Does anybody remember what the commentators said about Bollinger's injury? I think they said it was a stomach muscle strain but I'm not to sure.

Wonder how long he will be out for..

But its probably different if you've got to do the thinking and worrying for almost your entire team after being drained like this. 2005 was a team of established stars that could work out their issues themselves, leaving Ponting to concentrate on himself.

That's true. I was just thinking of Cardiff... but I don't think it'll have that kind of effect here. There, it was our direness that caused it. In this case, it was bad luck and brilliance from VVS.

The problem is, he did bowl well in his last spell of the game. An from an emotional POV it would be heartless to kick out someone who just won you a test match. (not on his own obv)

I think he should be given another go, it's not as if theres a replacement who is bowling way better than Sharma anyways.

Haha, wow, just saw the squad for the ODIs

Squad: Michael Clarke (capt), Cameron White, Doug Bollinger, Callum Ferguson, Nathan Hauritz, James Hopes, Mike Hussey, Shaun Marsh, Clint McKay, Tim Paine (wk), James Pattinson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner

I'll be quite surprised if we pull out a victory here. Very, very surprised.

So Gambhir and Ishant ruled out of second test. Means Vijay and Sree come in. And I guess Pujara comes in if VVS is not 100%

Going to create a new term: Indianism. Because when you win, it's not your skill or performance, it's a random made up quality that's the cause. Especially if you win when you're a favorite pre-match.
Haha, you're such a **** about this thing. Have never once seen an actual Australian bring it up though, it's only ever Cricinfo/people from other countries.

Hell of a game though, wow. Having watched pretty much all of the first three days, I was annoyed at having to head to Sydney yesterday to see the folks for my birthday. I wasn't thinking when I booked my bus and it meant I was on the bus coming back to Canberra for the last couple of hours of the game; had a mate keeping me up via text messages and was on Cricinfo Mobile until it crashed, which meant that it was only when I got a message from my Indian friend telling me to eat a part of the male anatomy that I realised we lost. Shattering too, because he's more a **** than Joni and the rest on here.

Lol Warner.

Obviously blatant development for Australia. The selectors must know they'll lose unless India play the same policy.

Does Tim Paine open? I'm looking for an excuse not to pick Warner in the team below.

Shaun Marsh
Tim Paine
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Cameron White
Callum Ferguson
James Hopes
Nathan Hauritz
A. Seamer
A. Seamer
Dougeh Bollinger

Where's Hazelwood? Would have been a decent chance to give him more gametime yeah?

Agreed. Loved Ishant's batting performance, but we wouldn't have given up 420+ in the first innings if he didn't bowl poo and give Watson and Ponting the start they had.

Cricinfo says that Mukund and Undikat (sp?) come in for Gambhir and Sharma.
Yeah, Rahane's in scorching form right now. I'd be pissed if I were Mukund though. There was a good case for picking Mukund ahead of Vijay back in 2008 too, it did puzzle many people why they picked the wrong opener as replacement.

Vijay will probably start in the XI though. Unadkat's selection is a joke.

Why are Australia resting Johnson and Ponting?

Who?

Surely Vijay and Sreesanth or Kumar?
They come into the squad. The squad already has Vijay and Sreesanth in it. Unadkat was a nippy left armer from the U19 WC who shot to fame by playing for KKR in the IPL and taking 14 wickets on FC debut for India A against West Indies A. Mukund is Vijay's opening partner for Tamil Nadu and is arguably even more prolific than Vijay is.

Clint McKay :disgust:

I understand the need to rest players and/or look to the future but this is taking it to the extreme
