Averages 50+ when you take out the part of his career when he was forced to open, tbh. Probably the most under rated batsman of the past decade simply by virtue of being stranded on the wrong side of a number.
No one in Australia has under-rated Laxman since the Sydney test in 2000.

VVS Laxman is something else. He batted with so much ease against a good attack on a tricky pitch. Hauritz could have run through us if we had tried to bat him out but we knocked him off his line and length and this is something that India can do better than any other team, especially at home. While Ojha was floundering against Johnson, I thought that 'we can't lose this', but then in hindsight, it is clear to me that either result against Australia, even at home, is acceptable, they played very well.

By beating Australia, who played well, I hope we go that little bit forward to solidifying our number one ranking in Tests. As for the next Test, it will take a very gutsy man indeed to drop Ishant after his three wickets and vital runs. I feel that, on balance, he should stay in the team merely due to the lack of anyone to come in and guarantee a better performance. We do need whoever the second pace bowler is, to do well though; Zaheer cannot perform every match, his style of bowling is not conducive to performing day in, day out, it requires a well conditioned ball and his ageing body to be feeling good. On that note, I'm really glad that Bhajji and Ojha bowled so well and exerted the pressure that they did.

Also, I do love the title of this article, almost as if Ishant is teasing that if he does not finish off things himself, then we can bring in Laxman.

VVS Laxman is Scorpio (Born November 1) , He is a man of intensity, in everything he does.

Yeah, had the other nations in mind, tbh. Man always stands up to be counted in tough situations, is glorious to watch, but never seems to get a mention in the best batsmen discussions.

I wonder whether India need to think about replacing Gambhir, he's failed in his last 7 innings. Ishant has to play the next game as well now. Some of our batsmen need to look at their modes of dismissal when they could have really pushed on and batted Australia out of the game.. particularly in the first innings.

Did get a fairly bad decision in the second to be fair.

Other nations don't really matter though...

I don't think you can drop someone with a Test and First Class record as good as Gambhir's after seven failures. He is in bad form, but we simply cannot replace and undermine someone of Gambhir's quality based on a short run of very poor form.

But where would the lulz come from if not for the teams that choke, get beaten 5-0, collapse dramatically and inexplicably, punch above their weight, cling onto memories of decades past etc etc?
