In his defence, Michael Clarke hadn't even played a test before being named next captain. Paine has at least proven that he is Test-match capable first.

Clarke should average 50.
In fact thinking through further I'll be incredibly annoyed at Ponting if he keeps the captaincy until Clarke is 32. You've spent the last decade grooming and preparing this guy for the captaincy, and then to **** everything up like this, leaving a guy too old to assume the mantle for any considerable length of time and having no one ready and young enough to replace him? Poor, poor form.

Personally i think Ponting should retire from captaincy after the world cup. Let him concentrate on his batting and boosting his form as tendulkar has done.

I agree with this. However I would prefer that he retired than hung onto the captaincy for years and years.

Well Ponting is already retiring from one day cricket after the world cup, so i guess we'll see how the ashes go in regards to his test future.

Na I meant another no.3 who can average 50. I don't know if Clarke will move to that position once Ponting goes...

Nah, even stevens.
Reckon the woeful nature of India's lower order make it Australia's game. If Tendulkar is still there and only Khan or one other goes by the end of the first session, I'd say it would turn more towards India.

The Monga guys articles on cricinfo just exude bias, have a look at this line:

"The Australian bowlers might not have the skill of Zaheer Khan"

Wtf?

tbh, the writing on Cricinfo has been a bit inconsistent of late. It's such a massive site, hard to generalise but I've read some absolutely awful articles on there recently.

That's a separate point, probably just the nature of ESPN making it a much larger and more variable site (which is a good thing).

However someone saying Zaheer is more skilled than Johnson, Bollinger of Hilfy isn't biased though.

The use of the term 'skill' suggests he's referring to reverse swing and guile and stuff anyway. Not out and out being the better bowler.

Haha reek of bias. It may be wrong, but how is that biased?

Take a chill pill.
haha yeh i changed it to 'exude'. I don't know what I was thinking with 'reek'

But while we are on the topic of language, 'take a chill pill' - seriously? Probably the lamest expression ever invented.

And yes it is biased, because stats and everything else suggest Khan isn't more skilled than the Aus bowlers.

He's a better exponent of the most damaging skill in these conditions though, namely reverse swing.
