Someone who knows more about the physiology and biology is more than welcome to correct me, but I'm convinced that the short break doesn't help when it comes to players picking up niggling injuries. In a World Cup year would that actually do any good though, it would mean a load of players go more or less straight from the end of the season into World Cup training, and then those players who have an extensive World Cup get to the final or whatever and then have minimal time off before it is pre-season again.
Which is why I'd propose any break to be over the first 2 weeks in January. You keep the traditional festive period and give players a recharging break after a period of madness. Not to mention the issue I raised about the Xmas period being the best time for fans.
You've just advocated the need for a 2 week break.Someone who knows more about the physiology and biology is more than welcome to correct me, but I'm convinced that the short break doesn't help when it comes to players picking up niggling injuries.
One thing that doesn't help with scheduling is having the FA Cup played at weekends.

Jesus, the first two weeks of January are grim enough without making them footy-free.Which is why I'd propose any break to be over the first 2 weeks in January. You keep the traditional festive period and give players a recharging break after a period of madness.
Yep, how hideous it would beJesus, the first two weeks of January are grim enough without making them footy-free.
If the Carling cup is removed, it could/should even with a big fxiture backlog for just the Premiership & FA Cup games.Arguably such a break is a potentially detrimental idea anyway, as Mark has already suggested, a big fixture backlog meaning a lot of games having to be pressed into a very short space of time could do more harm than good. It's important to bear in mind that having a break won't actually mean that players have to play less games, as some people seem to assume.
So when do you have it, and how do you then deal with an extreme cold spell of say 2-3 weeks that doesn't coincide with the break? The winter break doesn't have to be in January for reason poster cpr mentioned.
The problem is I'm not sure you can be that flexible as to when to hold it - especially with so many European games around that time.I suggested about easter, though don't make it rigid, so if January does get snowed off like it did this year, take the break early and rearrange fixtures for April... If not have a natural break in the fixtures around Mid-End March
I think he could end Lamps England's career.Anyone else watching wee Jack rip the Spudz a new one so far? No excuses for leaving this guy out of an England squad ever again. Doing his best Cesc impersonation and it took Spurs 10 minutes before their entire team decided to start hacking him every time on the ball. So so good. He can just flat out play.
If Gibbs can stay fit then he'll end up finishing Clichy's career at Arsenal and will be more or less ready to take over from Cole. Even when tired he manhandled Lennon and only once he got injured and Clichy on did Lennon look anything decent. Great penetrating runs when going forward too(also could play as a winger obviously).I think he could end Lamps England's career.
Indeed. Doesn't look too bad after the world cup after all. Only area lacking is good young defensive mid-fielders.If Gibbs can stay fit then he'll end up finishing Clichy's career at Arsenal and will be more or less ready to take over from Cole. Him and Wilshere are proper blue chipper prospects. Apparently the next wave of English players coming through is quite good too. Actually very excited about what we could be seeing.
It is the only really serious area ATM. I am a bit more optimistic about things looking at the young players around the league, since i made this post about a month ago: http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/2297413-post376.htmlYou cannot seriously think that is the only problem area England have at the moment (or did you miss the World Cup?)
Well if we have the winter break during that time, then the English players/teams involved will be sort of fresher & can focus on just a CL or EL matches. Instead of the usual hetic schedule around that time of a big PL game on the weekend, followed a big CL or EL game during the mid-week.The problem is I'm not sure you can be that flexible as to when to hold it - especially with so many European games around that time.
