*Official* Australia vs Pakistan in England

Pakistan will show up Australia's strengths and weaknesses - Telegraph

I bring this up because of two points.

1. Are people still going on about Roach and Ponting? In case the double-hundred, ODI hundred and ODI 90 hadn't put paid to any ideas that he can't pull any more.

2. I do hope England still believe this ridiculous fiction that Clarke has problems with the short ball, because if they try it come November, by the time they realise their mistake (and it surely won't be long) he'll be set and running.

You can't handle Pakistanis being shortened to Pakis for convenience sake? People get offended by the strangest things these days.
This. I didn't say it in an offensive way and I didn't know it was an offensive word. Not to worry, I won't use it again.

Double hundred isn't a great example, given that Ponting should have been caught pulling first ball.

Quite so.

We've been here so many times before; I know it's not considered offensive in Oz but honestly it's on a par with the n-word in the UK. Am almost direct analogy would be an Englishman using the abbreviated form of "Aboriginal"; it isn't considered a slur here but is (as I understand) very offensive in Australia, so on a multi-national forum is best avoided.

The word, without a shadow of doubt, is derogatory IMO.

EDIT:-Did not know it is not so in Oz, still extremely rude on a global forum.

I'd even bet that those people who take irrational offense to it are more than happy to use the same method for other nations, such as Aussies, Saffas, Brits, Scots, Yanks. The list goes on and on.

To those people I say get a grip. It only exists because people are lazy and like to shorten words. Its not derogatory or rude in the slightest.

Offensive? Yes. On a par with the 'n-word?' Not even close.

Lol, how does it feel to be a moron? Hate it when people decide what is and isn't offensive to other people.

It's offensive because people use it to be offensive, like the stupid white British people who want to use it to insult Pakistani people. They use it in an offensive and derogatory manner and Pakistani people are offended by it. Therefore it is offensive.

Now be quiet.

Yes because saying "bad things about" Pakistanis is so much better than saying "bad things about" Pakis.

In case you hadn't noticed, some people say bad things about every nationality and often use a shortened version. That doesn't make the shorthand offensive, it just makes them at worst lazy and slaves to convenience. The horror.

You must be the moron to not see that its whats said about a person/people that is the offensive part.

Getting offended by shorthand is an irrational response. I'm not going to stop people from being irrational but I can still call them out for being silly about it.

Let's start again. People don't get upset because it's shorthand. In the UK it's an ethnic slur with a long negative history behind it. Like the n word.

They aren't offended because it's shorthanded, they are offended because it's used in an offensive manner.

Not even close? I'd beg to differ. It might be marginally less offensive, but it is marginally.

Anyway, it's a moot point; it's clearly a racial slur in the UK so it's safer not to use it.
