*Official* Australia vs Pakistan in England

Marcus NOrth?

Smith is of far more value to the team than that blob.

North only gets runs when you least need them.
Bit harsh IMO, I'm not the biggest fan of North but he has scored some runs in some tricky situations.

I am really pumped for this series. Aussies to smash the Pakis.

Haha, is this a bit of a case of you looking at his strike-rate and thinking he's a slogger?
Nope, have seen him bat plenty live. You sure you haven't just been blinded by his one good season so far? Not like you to jump on a bandwagon early, though.

imo an average of 30 with only 1 fc hundred doesn't even compare to high 40's, let alone high 50's.
Depends on how long they've been doing it for, numbers are a guide for me. Right now, Paine is the more credentialed batter and I'd back him as more likely to score runs at 7 than Smith. Reckon Paine's numbers have a bit to do with how he's been used by Tas, especially early.

Anyway, we'll see and I'll be delighted to be proven wrong especially as I count myself as a Smith backer in general.

Great clip. Owned Pietersen that series.
Only played the 4th test (Ovalgate and all that) and KP did manage a (IIRC) 96 in that, so ownage limited IMHO.

In fact KP was dismissed after that ball was changed and Pakistan were too upset to continue, without wishing to open a can of worms...

Anyway, moving on, Paine is keeping in the tests? Shome mishtake shurely? Looks short in both disciplines currently. Manou didn't let anyone down last year so I'd assumed he was #2 for tests.

Manou was pretty much injured for the whole time last domestic season and when he did play his batting was just dire, most likely because of his injury.

Recovered now though.

Nice fifty from Hameed....Big fan of this guy...hope he gets a chance.
Me too..He deserved another chance considering how we have been persisting with the ordinary Butt for 2 years now despite his inconsistency.

was reading an article by Osman where he mentions Kamran has cost Kaneria 31 test wickets really unbelievable stats when you think how much a knock on positive effect does a wicket creates for a spinner.
I am not surprised one bit..Akmal's woeful form has been going on since 2006.

has been pretty poor in the 2 day game form is questionable atm/.
Yeah..but he was disappointing in the first test in Australia as well but then was phenomenal in the second..So I am still hopeful he will deliver.

Oh man..why did you have to show me that... It got me all nostalgic.. Asif was phenomenal in that test match..
Seriously..for a change..Yousuf and Younis scored some runs runs on an overseas tour..if only Asif and Shoaib were fit for that series...
harsh on Younis have usually done well on an away tour barring last Lanka tour.

Poor guy he doesnt want to lose his job after the drubbing

Regarding Younis, he really disappointed me in South Africa (02 and 06, and Australia 04)

in 02, he was still in his formative years.2004 averaged 40+ don't see anything wrong in that especially as Inzi was injured while Mon Yo as usual went AWOL versus Aus and 2006 was a bowler dominated series and no one apart from Kallis did brilliant though Younis got us through the tricky chase and played a significant role in the test win along with Asif and Shoaib.

Agree about North.

Can I suggest avoiding the word "Pakis"? It's seen as a really offensive word in these parts. I realise it doesn't have those connotations elsewhere, including Oz, and I don't mean any criticism of you for using the word, but to our ears it really jars.

You can't handle Pakistanis being shortened to Pakis for convenience sake? People get offended by the strangest things these days.

Haha, kitty has claws! I was actually really dismissive of Smith at the start of his career, as my early posts on CW reflect. But I've grown to love him. :)

Sorry, should've said 'tour'. Had his number in the ODIs I think.

haha, maybe I've done the same with his batting. Loved the bowling from ball one, though.

Good to see Ponting in the runs, not sure whether Huss getting in the runs is such a good thing, as much as I love him, I can't see him hanging around for much longer on the Test scene.

What worries me is that his last four test dismissals have all been nicks to the keeper.

And in all reality it should've been the last five (or even more, don't remember beyond that)
