Siddique looks like he has cemented that Number 3 spot down for a while. Good news for the Bangas as they need more solid batsmen like Siddique.

Bloody hell, Bresnan's picked up a cheap wicket at the death. What's his ODi bowling average for the summer now? 140?
I've been sensing a fair bit of Bresnan hate on this board and I'm sure it is justified through underperformance. However, I watched him bowl a bit yesterday and thought he was pretty solid, he had good pace and his off cutter worked well.

Yep. They should be concentrating their efforts on Anderson. His record lately particularly in ODIs is absolutely atrocious. He's not a young player picked with a bit of long-termism any more. He should be delivering and he's isn't. There are more promising players about who'd perform just as 'well' as he is doing now.

We ignoring his performances in South Africa?

Most people who're on the fringes, Lions teams etc. would do better than Anderson has done lately. Bresnan is pretty much doing a better job than Anderson at the moment and he's pretty unremarkable with the ball.

They really need a couple more - when Habibul Bashar has been your one "world class" example till now - you know you have been in trouble.

They need a Boycott in the team. Not Windies style though. Score so slowly I'll run you out style.

Guess people have short memories. James Anderson was probably our best ODi bowler last year. It was the first time since 03 when he first burst onto the scene that he was consistently taking wickets. He took 34 wickets at 23.61 at an economy of 4.97, they are very good figures. This year he's had a couple of poor games in a row, but his figures for the year still look more than decent. 12 wickets at 32 is reasonable, and certainly not bad enough to warrant getting dropped. Bresnan might be more economical, but he's opening the bowling, he should be taking wickets with the new ball, and he just isn't doing that. I expected him to look threatening with the new ball against these boys, but he didn't look like buying a wicket, and it wasn't until they were slogging at the end that he picked up a couple of wickets. His performances against Australia were god awful, and how he's kept his place until today is beyond me. Economy just isn't enough for an opening bowler.

Surprise, surprise, England bowling first again. A couple of changes to the side though, which is nice to see. Trott in for Tredwell and Shahzad replaces Bresnan. Looking forward to seeing how Shahzad goes. Hopefully he'll actually look threatening with the new ball.

Don't wanna jinx the boy and v early days (11 balls in to his potential 60) but Shahzad bowling good lines and moving the ball away from Tamim.

Great stop from Wright to save a 4 there too.

Shahzad's already looked more threatening than Bresnan has with the new ball in any game in the last few months. Better domestic record, better pace, actually moves the new white ball and looks like taking wickets outside the slog overs. I'm sure Bresnan will be stuck with though, as they 'like his character'.

And as I type that, Shahzad picks up Tamim. He's been the only bowler to get Tamim to consistently play and miss, and he eventually finds the edge, very good bowling. Fine catch from Kieswetter too, his keeping has been excellent.
