A usually reliable source of mine from the Tigers has told me that we have entered the race to sign Michael Gordon... Although i think he's a good player and a great kicker i dont know that we need him at the moment....

We love signing a player from Penrith though...
FFFUUUU!!!

Also lollin at the AFL. Yeah a QLD finisher who's played for the 2 clubs most hated in Sydney is going to really grab those parochial western Sydneysiders. Totally worth eating 1/7th of your salary cap.

Really odd signing by the Titans, I mean they have enough centres and wingers FFS.
I really hated the way Michaels played in the last year and a half but with a change of clubs he could get back to his pre-injury days.

I don't think the TItans centres are that flash, I mean Josh Graham gets a go at the moment and he is average.

Re: Folau, I'm not upset at all, his downfall is going to be that he can't kick for ****, I reckon he'll be a disaster, at least with KHunt he looks like he could adapt to the game.

I think QLD should drop him right away also, it's Lote time!

Hindy ruled out in the warm-up.

Changing tip to Dragons.
Missed this earlier. A couple of minutes late tbh but I'll pay it. I know how you feel about Hindy.

Round 12

Clapo 6
Mister Wright 6
morgieb 6
alternative 5 (didn't tip Titans v Roosters)
NUFAN 4
ripper 4
James90 4
Craig 4
Brumby 4
vic_orthdox 4
Burgey 4
Ausage 3

Good weeks for Clapo, Wright and morgieb who narrowly miss out on a perfect round. Clapo tops the round for the 4th time, while I prop up the scores for the second time. Blewy misses his third straight tip and is off the books for the time being.

Overall

Ausage 51.3
NUFAN 51.2
Clapo 49.4
ripper 49.2
alternative 48.1
Craig 47.2
James90 47.1
Mister Wright 46.3
morgieb 46.3
Burgey 46.1
Brumby 43
vic_orthdox 42.1

NUFAN claws back a share of the lead but the big movers are Clapo and ripper who close to within 2 of top spot. Vic through no fault of his own moves back to the foot of the table.

Find the polynesian aspect to it interesting, and its a perspective which certainly hasn't been expressed or heard of south of the border. Probably has some merit to it.

It's not the on-field performance he'll be measured by though mate, it's the free publicity that the (GWS and AFL) get out of it, it makes perfect marketing snese, alot of kids out that way are of poly background (and Folau actually grew up there and will be with family). Some of the younger more impressionable (8-12) will switch codes because of this, or at the least give it a crack. The AFL may only be dominat in Victoria, and is never likely to become fully dominant in NSW or Qld, but it is a shrewd business move...2 high profile players will draw interest from markets that would normally not be interest (i.e. the league crowd) and you may only keep 5% of that crowd but hey, you've upped your market by 5%. AFL has shedloads of cash to splash as well, easily the best run code from a corporate perspective in terms of money making (perhaps not in drugs and women relations etc though)..and pretty sure his payments won't come under the salry cap either...read he will be paid by the AFL and GWS to do "promotional work" while receiving a player salary that closer reflects his ability...least thats how i understand it to be.

Rugby league supporters follow clubs though, they don't follow players. From a marketing perspective, the only two guys who I would have gone for would have been Slater (his appeal transcends the code, and he 'presents' very well) and Hayne (more popular in West Sydney than beanies and ugg boots). By contrast, Izzy hardly even has a following up here in Brisbane or down in Melbourne, let alone West Sydney. And he certainly is not all that well spoken. The best marketing strategy is assembling a kick-arse team. Everyone loves a winner.

Actually viewed as a bit of a turncoat here tbh since he was developed near Campbelltown but buggered off to play for Melbourne, Brisbane and - worst of all - the Maroons.

It's not free publicity though. It comes with an enormous price tag, and a cost of hardening hatred of the team in many NRL mad western Sydneysiders who know a crusade when they see it. It's also free publicity in AFL heartlands for the NRL. What's with this funny eastern code that's producing athletes the AFL seem desperate to get their hands on?

Agree with HJ too. Slater and Hayne would have been far better. Couldn't stand Folau before all of this happened.

I remember someone laughing very loud at me in the NRL thread when I suggested Falou would be targeted by the AFL.

Heard some pretty vitriolic things against Folau today at uni. Was a whole group of what looked like pretty angry NRL supporters gathered together shouting "Down with Israel" and all that. I mean I understand frustrations run deep but there's no need to call him a murderer or a terrorist.

Isn't that ironic?

This might be a dumb question but are you sure they weren't going on about the county?

Do Folau (and Hunt) come under the rookie list so therefore the AFL pays their salaries and not under the salary cap?
