What is it with the current influx of 'athletes' taking up MMA? In recent times we've seen Brock Lesnar, Jose Canseco (LOL), Herschel Walker, Bobby Lashley, Mariusz Pudzianowski and a whole heap of others. What makes Batista think he's going to be a success in MMA? Just because you've 'competed' in the WWE and look like a roided-up freak it doesn't mean you're going to be a success in MMA. Might make a bit of quick cash in Japan, but he's not going to be able to compete at any sort of level.

I can appreciate guys like Lesnar and Lashley taking to the sport, as they actually have a background in a Martial Art, College Wrestling, but Batista doesn't have that. He's a former bodybuilder turned Pro Wrestler. If he thinks he's going to take to the sport with ease just because he's massive, he's going to be in for a shock. Brock Lesnar had serious NCAA Division 1 wrestling credentials, and Lashley was training for the Olympics in Wrestling before a knee injury ended those hopes. Batista's a roided-up freak in his early 40's that must be desperate for a quick buck, as there is no way on Earth he's going to be a success in the sport. I'm sure he'll find some fights though, if he's serious about it. The Japanese will watch any freak-show compete, check Jose Canseco vs Hong-Man Choi for proof. He could potentially get a deal with Strikeforce too, seeing as they allowed 48 year old former Football player Herschel Walker make his Pro Debut for their organisation, feeding him a can to get a victory. Batista's certainly not going to find a 'career' in Mixed Martial Arts though. I hope he gets put in with someone with some talent and has his arse handed to him. Let Bobby Lashley loose on him, that'd be entertaining as hell.

Yeah indeed, someone like Shelton Benjamin or Charlie Haas would actually have a better chance. Will be hilarious to see what happens here. Like you say, he's clearly going nowhere in the sport, best he can hope for is some sort of novelty factor and someone wanting to hire him on this basis, which unfortunately will still be quite lucrative for him, in all probability. Let's just hope he gets his ass handed to him.

Am I the only one who's thinking that it's sad that Batista is quitting the WWE when he's been doing the best work of his entire career? Talk about leaving when on the top of your game. Batista as a heel has been very entertaining and he's done really well with his arrogant character. I don't think I've ever seen Batista give better promos in his whole career. Bit of a shame to see him go actually.

I hadn't really thought of it in that way to be honest. But you are right, he has been on a massive roll as of late, and has been miles better than his stale face character. But at the same time, at least he has gone out on a high. Can't really think of a better way to go than the culmination of a massive feud with the company's franchise player.

If he's smart about it, does some good training and then gets in touch with DREAM in Japan he could make himself some serious money. DREAM were happy to put Jose Canseco into their Super Hulk Grand Prix tournament as he took on a 7'2" Korean K-1 Kickboxer and got rightly destroyed, so they'd be more than happy to give Batista a fight if he's serious about it. If he thinks he's going to be competing in anything other than Freakshow fights then he's going to be in for a shock.

Agreed on Shelton Benjamin too, he was a very talented Amateur Wrestler that amassed a fairly good College record at the same University as Brock Lesnar. Not sure how good Haas's college record was, but have read he was supposedly quite talented. Kurt Angle would have been the best Pro-Wrestler to turn to MMA. There are guys in MMA that have competed at the Olympics in Wrestling, but none achieved a Gold medal. I'm sure if Angle had won his Gold Medal in '00 or '04 he'd have moved into MMA instead of into Pro Wrestling, and given his work rate and determination to succeed I'm certain he'd have been a success.

I would pay so much money to watch Batista get shoved into a cage with Alaistair Overeem. That would be the most beautiful event in the history of our species.

You're certainly not. He's been gold these past few months. His promo on Smackdown a few months back where he literally said nothing was the start of his best run since the Triple H feud in 05.

Oh, and yeah, NXT was AMAZING this week, just off the charts. Danielson is off the charts. I think you were a bit harsh with the cartoon character comment towards my beloved Miz, but Danielson's psychology as a character is so impressive.

So we have our two main events set up for Fatal 4 Way

On raw, it's gonna be Cena V Edge V Sheamus V Orton. Orton is provisional though and apparently they may have Jericho or Triple H take him out if need be. From a kayfabe POV it would make more sense if it was Jericho and were Triple H to turn heel it would really leave Cena as the only top-level face on raw unless I'm forgetting someone. Good news for Morrison & R-Truth maybe but still. Though I suppose with H and Orton's history you can have them attack each other without necessitating (sp?) a turn.

Then after tonight's Smackdown it will be Swagger V Big Show V CM Punk V Undertaker. Of course things could change, was expecting Rey Rey to be in there so it will be interesting to see what he does. If Swagger goes over in that one it will work wonders for him.

I'm not a huge fan of the concept but I can live with it. It's on Sky Sports so I don't have to pay for it (aside from the subscription obv) and is in the midst of two weeks that I've booked off work so I'll be watching. Hopefully we'll get some good stuff on the undercard. Christian and Dolph could tear the house down if they get the chance on PPV. And R-Truth and Ted will surely go again, this time with a title on the line.

Finally, CM Punk's mask is all kinds of awesome and I guess it means we will get to see him and Rey keep feuding, my prediction is a mask v mask match at Summerslam. I love that feud, I really do.

Tbf to Lashley, his ring work was actually getting really good by the time he left the company. Actually I'm not sure how that actually is relevant to what you said, but I'm out of my tree this evening, drunk far too much and done some seroiusly stupid ****. Watch Cena vs Lashley from Great American Bash from some years ago, WAFG.

Daniel Bryan WAFG.

RAW for this week looks like a top show with some quality matches.

Looks like Evan Bourne is about to get a big push too, really exciting time to be watching imo.

Last time I stopped watching wrestling, Lashley was being pushed hard as unstoppable. What happened to him?

Nonetheless, when we're talking about roided up angry black wrestlers, no one beats:

Tremendous gimmick: Angry strong black man

Got injured by Mr Kennedy, whilst out injured the E fired his wife (Krystal Marshall iirc) and he threw a big strop and quit. Bit of a shame imo, really liked him, maybe he'll be back one day.

Him breaking the side of the cage by jumping through it to get to Umaga was all kinds of win.

YouTube - WWE-ECW: Lashley break the cage!!!

Haha jeeez that is insane.

awesome spot

what happened to kennedy?
Kept injuring people and being injured himself and ended up being fired the night after making a comeback. Apparently Randy Orton had a massive moan to management about how dangerous he was to work with after Kennedy had dropped him on his head whilst trying to suplex him or something and he was gone the next day. Or at least that is how the story goes.

Raw was so so soooooooooo good. SO good. Wasn't expecting much this week, just expected mish-mash tag matches ahead of the PPV. Instead Bryan kills The Miz and then gets Cole, and Evan Bourne finally gets his revenge on Sheamus and Edge.

Oh and Jono, Ahmed Johnson FTW!
