Battle of Cricketers - CW's Favorite Cricketer

Magrat Garlick

Rather Mad Witch
Time for a new battle, I think - sorry about this. Votes at 24 hours counts for the wild card. At that time Fry and Boon only had 7, which wasn't enough for either of them. Lillee through.

Maurice Tate (1895-1956)

1198 runs and 155 wickets in 39 Tests for England; 21,717 runs and 2,784 wickets in 679 FC matches
A premier allrounder, he developed his seam bowling at the age of 27 and became England's leading bowler for seveal years
1,000 runs and 200 wickets in each season between 1923 and 1925

Graham Gooch (1953-)

8,900 runs in 118 Tests for England; 125 ODIs
Most career runs for England; most runs in any single Test (456)
The last prolific first class run-scorer, with 128 centuries and 44,846 runs
4,176 runs @ 50.31 in the 1990s

Harold Larwood (1904-1995)

78 wickets in 21 Tests for England
The fastest bowler of his age, was retired at 28 following disagreements over Bodyline
Ravaged by injuries, his record is inconsistent but occasionally brilliant

Graham Gooch.

I know he took the Rand, which will count against him but I just can't dislike him. Used to love watching Gooch bat and his cheeky slow-swing bowling was enjoyable too. Supposedly has the highest rated innings of all time (vs. West Indies @ Headingley?) and I remember watching transfixed as he scored 333 against India. And also watching transfixed as he got out yet again to Terry Alderman.
