*Official* English Domestic Season Thread 2010

Cricketer Of The Year
Sussex v Slurrey at Hove today. We couldn't really wish for a better time to play them after their desperate performance against Derbyshire.

Both sides are somewhat weakened: for the 'Rey, Michael Brown is out injured as is (I think) Chris Tremlett. Sussex are strengthened by the arrival of their overseas player Rana Naved but Matt Prior is still absent, by (slightly mystifying) decree of the EWCB, and Ed Joyce remains injured.

Given the off-season shenanigans I would expect this to have something of a grudge match atmosphere.

I wonder if this volcanic ash cloud which has shut all the northern airports will have any affect on the games starting today?

Squad: Glen Chapple (capt), James Anderson, Mark Chilton, Steven Croft, Kyle Hogg, Paul Horton, Simon Kerrigan, Sajid Mahmood, Stephen Moore, Ashwell Prince, Daren Powell, Tom Smith, Luke Sutton (wkt).

We seem to have gone for the Middlesex method of playing no batsmen. Croft looks like he'll be at five. The there's Sutton, Smith and Chapple, which isn't too convincing, as good lower-order players as they are.
Smith will open as last year with Horts dropping to 3 & Croft at 6. Young Kerrigan making his FC debut in the abscence of Keedy, gl to the lad, took a few in preseason. Hope Jimmeh gets a bag again.

Lancs won the toss and elected to bowl. (Hogg and Powell miss out from above squad)

Nice start for Lancs. Smith gone for 0 and Horton gone for 2 with both wickets going to Woakes whose figures read 2.1 overs, 2 maidens, 0-2.

 Moore gone as well. Woakes is having a blinder. 1-3 now.

Shahzad's picked up a wicket for Yorkshire too. Nice start for a few of the England bowlers. 3 for Woakes, 1 for Finn and 1 for Shahzad.
