So what does the future hold for West Indies?

Does Dowlin have much captaincy experience or is it given to him on the basis he has more experience?
To be fair, none of the players selected have any serious captaincy experience....

However, maybe it's Dowlin's opportunity to show what he has in terms of captaincy ability. I wonder when the WICB will get around to announcing who the captain will be.

Odd that they wouldn't announce who the captain is when they named the squad, I mean it would be logical, but hey, this is the WICB.

To be honest the WICB have been getting their acts together recently, they kept their promise about the A-team tours, they've allowed Gibson to get in the coaches he wants, they are soon gonna open the youth academy, they are speaking to new sponsors and have laid out new plans on how WI cricket will move forward, so i've been happy with the moves they've been making lately, not naming the captain on time isn't a big issue to me  .

Since it wasn't answered correctly, Dowlin was captain of Guyana a couple years back.
Well, that answers that question....

He's the only player with captaincy experience in the A team, so what's taking the WICB so long?
As for Ricardo Powell, he has to make the Trinidad team first.

I thought Powell had disappeared off the face off the earth. His last Test being the one where Lara scored 400*.

He married a Trini (good choice Ricardo) and has since been running two pretty large companies in Port of Spain. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years ago and after everything they have been through they have decided Ricardo should have one more go at cricket.

Good luck to him.

So one person not being experienced means the WHOLE SIDE isn't experienced at county level? yeah ok!! 8-) .
The only regular players were Brophy and Wainwright and Brophy won't play much this year as Yorkshire have Bairstow now.The rest of the Yorkshire players will be lucky to get more than a couple of games all season and they will only be in an injury crisis. As for the others i haven't heard of them but then again you can only score runs against the side in front of you so this kid obviously has talent.I just hope he isn't rushed in too soon.

the unbalanced nature of the A team is coming back to bite them....

Instead of playing three seamers (Gabriel, Bess and Pascal), the WI A team should've played another specialist batsman (Fudadin?) instead of one of the seamers. Now, in their second innings, the Zimbabweans are setting a pretty good target, thanks to the lower-order batting of Blignaut, and Cremer to a lesser extent.

In the match itself so far, the only real stand-outs have been the bowling of another spinner, Shillingford, and the batting of veteran captain Dowlin (88) and Bajan Kirk Edwards (69). However, once again, Edwards failed to push on to three figures....

Edwards, Brathwaite, Guillen and Haynes are going to need to bat much better on today's final day. IMHO, this match has so far shown that the youngsters clearly need a lot more A team practice before we can even begin to talk about them getting into the main WI side....

Being "positive" again Mike? the A-team won at a canter due to Brathwaite getting 63, Edwards again impressing with 71 not out and young wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich finally showing his talent with the bat with an unbeaten 33, an easy win by 6 wickets, also two pacers in Pascal and Gabriel did themselves no harm by getting some wickets in the match too, but no doubt Shillingford was the main man with his 8 wickets.

I take it you didn't read the last paragraph of my post....

Edwards and Brathwaite batted better on the final day, which was good. Shillingford and Pascal bowled well.

But it still doesn't hide the fact that one of the pacers needs to be dropped and replaced by a specialist batsman. Batting Dowrich at six is ridiculous, to say the least.

Top performers so far - Dowlin, Edwards, Shillingford.

Honorable mentions so far - Brathwaite, Pascal.

I still want to see Edwards push on to three figures. This has been a good start by Brathwaite, now let's see if he can score a century against Zimbabwe.

This has been a good recovery by the A team, but none of the participants have done enough to merit being called into the WI Test team against the Saffers. I would like to see these youngsters playing all three series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and England, and then take it from there.....

What about Shane Shillingford? He did well and seems to have a decent First Class record.

Unfortunately, the one area where the Windies don't have a lack of applicants is in the area of spinners....

Benn and Miller have taken quite a few wickets at regional level, as has Imran Khan, as well as Shillingford. Has Shillingford done enough to replace Benn? Chances are, on a spin-friendly pitch such as this one, Benn would've taken more than eight wickets in this match.

Still, it's good to know that Shilly is there, if Benn and Miller lose form....

Yeah i did, and i also read your first line too Mike!! , anyway what exactly is "enough" in your book? take Shillingford for example, he done well last season taking over 20 wickets, he's now continued that form for the A-team so what more can he do? but oh yeah i forgot you stay loving the "old boys club" , Shillingford, Edwards and Pascal are capable of making the step up NOW imo, and if Brathwaite continues his form then they won't be able to ignore him either.
