The lad just turned 17 a few months ago and got 80 against Zimbabwe and 110 against a 'combined county side' full of some very talented and experienced players from English county cricket, yes it's not major opposition but for his age i'd say it's pretty impressive.
I'm not so sure how 'talented' and 'experienced' these county bowlers are....
Bowling: Montgomery 17-1-57-1 (w7, nb6), Sanderson 13-3-47-1 (nb3), Pyrah 11-2-40-0, Hargreaves 5-0-29-0 (w2, nb9), Parry 21-5-39-2 (nb1), Wainwright 19-6-52-2, Root 4-0-13-0.

Well the opening bowler there was a professional footballer up to about 6 months ago, so he's experienced I guess.

Actually that Parry character looks really promising there, 2 wickets against top opposition at less than 2 an over. Get him in the England team IMO - don't need Swann or Jimmy when he's around!

Well all i know is they were a combined county side, probably made up of Yorkshire and Derbyshire players, you can downplay the opposition guys but you can't take away his 80 against Zimbabwe!!, how many other 17 year olds are posting those kind of scores against international sides? .

I'm not downplaying his talent at all, Windie....

Personally, I think Brathwaite will be in the WI side soon, but not this year. Maybe after next season's domestic four-day competition, after he's played a full season for Barbados.

But while his knock of 110 over the weekend was a good one, I think it would be an error to read too much into it....

So one person not being experienced means the WHOLE SIDE isn't experienced at county level? yeah ok!! 8-) .

No you're downplaying the opposition Mike which is a subliminal way of downplaying Brathwaite!!, the kid is 17 man, what he's doing is brilliant and personally i think he'll be in the side before the end of the year, the next FC season is too far away and this kid is hitting top form right now, he'll be in the A-team for the up and coming games against Zimbabwe and then we can see how things go, if his form continues then the call for him to be included will be far too loud for Gibson to ignore.

I'm being realistic about the opposition, Windie, and if it's downplaying it, then it's being truthful....

His knock is one step up the ladder, IMHO, but he's still got a long way to go, especially as a batsman. I would prefer to judge his progress after he's played a full season for Barbados.

I've heard rumours that Barath and Lil Bravo have been omitted from the squad to play the world 20/20, and the rumour mill says that Gibson wants them to focus on developing their technique for the longer version of the game, and he doesn't want them to pick up any bad habits by playing too much 20/20 cricket so early in their careers....

If that is true, then I for one applaud Gibson for that decision!

Yeah i heard that rumour too but i doubt he'd put Barath in the A-team after his ton against the Aussies and also isn't Gullien in the A-team already? and there's no doubt Brathwaite will be in it so i don't see where Adrian fits in, i expect Darren Bravo to play though, as for Brathwaite, i think he'll learn much more playing A-team cricket than anything he's likely to learn playing for Barbados, if he scores a few more tons for the A-team can you really tell me he shouldn't be considered for WI? i understand he's still learning Mike but every now and then a young sensation comes along and makes the game look easy, i think that's the case where Brathwaite's concerned.

Is Brathwaite large physically? 17 is a young age to start his international career

I'm sure Brathwaite will make the A team for series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and England, and I think Gibson should keep him for all three series, even if he makes tons for them. I would then expect Brathwaite to play for Barbados in the spring before any discussion of him making the transition to the senior team. Remember the apprenticeship Barath served? I believe that a similar apprenticeship period should also be served by Brathwaite....

As for Barath and Lil Bravo - if the rumours are correct! - I'm sure they'll come into the WI squads after the world 20/20 champs for the ODIs and Tests against South Africa in May.

He's tall and thin and very mature for his age. As far as I know he hasn't had any injury problems in his (admittedly short) career so far.

Basically as soon as Braithwaite has scored at least 3 or more FC hundreds at A team or FC level I will be fine with him coming into the side, he is that special. But until then I eagerly await his performances for the A team.

Imo if he's on fire in the A-team games against Zim and Bang then he should be considered for South Africa, maybe in a few of the Odi's first and then take it from there, i don't think we should compare every youngster to Barath Mike, you know from the past how much i admire Adrian but i have to be honest i think Brathwaite will be better man, and thus his debut for WI is likely to come a little quicker.
