Then do it properly, don't just do it for home games for Essendon.

And wait a few years.

And Lloyd = Telstra Dome cos he's the only dick who throws grass in the air when the roof is shut.

Actually, without wanting to sound patronising or defensive, I think Melbourne will be a much better team this year and surprise a few better fancied opponents. We were poor, but they were better. And you'd hope that after a while top draft and priority picks would improve a team! I can't remember where I put them in my predicted ladder before the start of the year, but I think they'll be well off the bottom this year - probably in the gaggle of teams 10-13 just outside of contention for the eight in the end.
It's easy to say that after easily their best effort this year, and you may end up being right, but you seem to be quickly discounting the diabolical performances the Dees have put in this year so far including the preseason matches (for what they're worth).

They turned up to play today, and that's great for them, but are they better than anyone else yet? Even just to finish 13th there needs to be three teams worse than them, and that can only happen through a massive improvement on the Dees' part. I'd be watching a few more games before deciding they're on the up.

Nah no way. I like the Dees, but name 3-5 teams that will finish below them.

Richmond are the only real guarantee (:() ) and maybe Freo, no one knows what they'll do. Who else?
Richmond
North
Freo
maybe WC
maybe Port
maybe Carlton

@ Jono as well - so do you really think they're that wretched that adding players of the likes of Scully, Trengove, Watts, Morton, etc, will have no effect whatsoever on the team? I'm not getting carried away in terms of saying that these kids will carry them to a flag anytime soon, or even anywhere near the eight this year, but they'll make a difference.

Melbourne should've atleast drawn the game. That tackle on Heath Shaw by Brad Green was holding the ball.
There was a tackle down our end a couple of minutes before the siren by Maxwell on a Dees player that was also clearly holding the ball and wasn't paid. In any game decided by less than a kick, there's always going to be individual umpiring calls to point at, but that's a hiding to nothing.

Well AFAIK Morton is injured for quite a while. Watts and Scully won't have an impact anytime soon - but that's fine because they weren't drafted with that in mind.

I never said they won't be a good team, I just think it's a stretch to believe that Melbourne has turned the corner.

Carlton and Port will not finish below Melbourne. WC are also unlikely but I won't rule ridiculous things like that out. But Carlton and Port most definitely will not.

Melbourne couldn't go to Subiaco and beat WCE for one.

Still reckon Freo will end up lower than Melbourne Matt?

Was at the game today as a neutral to see them take on Essendon.

So good seeing Essendon lose against Richmond in their Sheedy/Hird farewell game, and now lose for Lloyd's farewell.

Suck it

I was there too, not a bad game.

How good was Alex Silvagni! I thought he was amazing for a young key defender playing just his second game and coming off the rookie list. Laid shepherds, made spoils in contests where he peeled off his man, used the ball cleanly when he had it and always seemed in control. All the love is for Barlow at the moment but for a key position player to come in and play that well off the rookie list is a great credit to him.

About as bad as it gets....

Worst I've seen us play in quite some time.

To sum up the game, Mcphee was probably our best player.

Suppose at least Gumbleton showed signs.

Scary thing is our back line was very good i thought.

Mids and forwards absolutely **** house.

Would delist half our team based on today but footys a funny game, they could all be champions after next Saturday night.

Have a bad feeling about the season though, bottom seems to be looming large.

Yep. But Essendon will be keeping them company there. Been predicting a wooden spoon for them for the last three years, and this year it may come to fruitition...

You mean the one after Leon Davis got that really soft freekick?
