Poor Ryan, not a nasty bone in his body :(
Yeah, I mean, you see the way Ramsey's ankle is just flapping around in the air after the tackle? You see those in every 50/50 challenge up and down the country each week. What the hell is everyone getting so worked up about?

Yeah dude, winding up and swinging upwards in a full blooded manner is the natural reaction to a ball on the ground. Happens all the time. Poor Shawie :(

Was Ramsey's fault just as much as Shawcross's, he went in just as hard. It's not like he got there 4 days earlier and played the ball or anything.

Jeeeez.

Have this feeling that it's down to modern football boots, although obviously that'd be impossible to prove and is little more than a hunch. Would certainly put them at fault for why the entire world knows about the metatarsal now, but leg breaks would be a whole nother matter.

Although on the other hand, the extra time allowed to players by football being played in slow motion would explain how he managed to remember he was playing against Arsenal and should therefore try to win the ball when he wouldn't normally.

Yes because your attitude in a match is on a tackle by tackle basis and has nothing to do with your mindset leading up to kick off, team talks prior to kick off or half time.

Injuries aside, you don't think teams play it harder against the Arse?

Well it would look pretty badly mistimed when you slow it down to a tenth of the speed it actually happened.

He tried to kick the ball and Ramsey got there first. Unfortunate for Ramsay, but it honestly just looks like you guys want someone to blame.
He comes in wildly over the top of the ball ffs.

Of course they do, yeah. It just can't reasonably be linked to the three incidences of serious injuries in the past five seasons. I mean, teams play much harder in derby games, that's clear for all to see. Why aren't an unusual proportion of these sick injuries we see every year in derbies?

That's a bit weak, but it's a kind of "real terms" way of making my point. Very, very few tackles that could potentially cause a serious injury actually do, and hence more serious injuries is generally the result of bad luck rather than more dangerous tackles.

The more difficult question to answer is: what's Shawcross doing differently against Arsenal in that situation than he wouldn't do against any other team?

Not that this amounds to an unusual proportion, but thought I would throw it in there anyway.

Haha indeed. It's the only one I could think of tbh, and I can remember plenty of horrendous tackles in derby matches.

Even that's a bit of an outlier, considering Keane was actually trying to injure the guy.

It's just horrible IMO. The leg's swinging down from very high to high. Wasn't like the ball was bouncing or anything, he's gone well over the top.
