*Official* England in Bangladesh

Ashraful dropped for Bangladesh.
Interesting that Prior's playing as a specialist number 3.

Think Trott's going to be a victim of the old English selectors' fallacy that ropey form in one format means ropey form in every format.

No disrespect to yer Banglas, but a one day thrash against them isn't such a stiff ask as a test series versus Steyn, Morkel et al. Kieswetter as a straight swap for Prior would be they way to go, surely?

So hopefully...

1 Tamim Iqbal
2 Imrul Kayes
3 Junaid Siddique
4 Mushfiqur Rahim
5 Shakib Al Hasan
6 Mahmudullah
7 Naeem Islam
8 Suhrawadi Shuvo
9 Mashrafe Mortaza
10 Shafiul Islam/Rubel Hossain
11 Abdur Razzak

Junaid the lesser of the two evils, the other being Aftab. Five spinners likely to play.

King Pietersen

International Captain

To anyone with half a brain it'd be the way to go, but our selectors have proven time and time again that logical selections aren't their strong suit. I mean who's clever idea was it to bring Cook into the ODi side as captain? He's an ok OD player, but there is no way he should be opening the innings ahead of Trott, Kieswetter, Davies or Lumb just to name a few. They should have given the captaincy to Collingwood or Pietersen if Strauss couldn't be arsed to turn up in Bangladesh. They didn't though, and it's looking likely that we'll see:

Cook *
Kieswetter
Pietersen
Collingwood
Morgan
Prior +
Wright
Bresnan
Broad
Swann
Sidearse

line-up come the first ODi. It should be enough to beat Bangladesh, but that is not a good ODi side by any means. Prior should be nowhere near this side, yet I'm sure a few runs against a Bangladeshi 2nd XI will be enough to guarantee his selection for a while yet, despite his continual failures at the top level.

Think Raqibul should still be given a run personally.

No tour thread yet, and this may have been mentioned on here before, but how bad is this comment by Paul Collingwood:

"It won't be easy to find a golf course in Bangladesh; if there is one, they'll probably have wooden clubs."

Borderline disgraceful.
Shocking and embarrassing. I can't believe he said that. What a complete idiot. Completely unacceptable and he ought to be disciplined for it.

Pretty old news but really its a joke and a pretty funny one so who cares. People who know about the country have made insulting comments and jokes that are way worse and not untrue of the reality of the country. He is only a sports guy. They should have the right to make jokes much like the rest of us. All this politically correct BS makes me sick.

No I'm not being sarcastic. I hadn't heard this story at the time and only read about it in this thread. I couldn't care less if I'm called politically correct (a cheap, vague and lazy allegation at the best of times). Collingwood's wisecrack was at the very least rude to his hosts and sends a terrible message about English attitudes. And this is a situation where he is an ambassador for the country.

I'm actually surprised that Ashraful has been dropped from the ODI side. I expected it for the Test Team, but thought he'd still be a semi okay option in ODIs at least in the sub continent.

His batting's completely gone to pieces. The days when he'd compile a stylish twenty and get himself out seem like a golden age compared to the way he's batting now. I've never seen him look so tentative at the crease. He's been seeing the ball really late and his already slightly shoddy footwork's been getting worse by the innings.

Trott's performance in the second T20 might have something to do with it, rightly or wrongly. If you're sucking at tests and sucking at T20s it's likely you'll also suck at ODIs.

I'd probably try to play him back into form anyway.

Appears as though the decision to drop Ashraful was taken in spite of Siddons' wishes

Ashraful dropped for England ODIs | Cricket News | Bangladesh v England 2009/10 | Cricinfo.com

"Ashraful himself wanted a break and we also felt that the pressure on him had increased to the extent that his confidence was suffering," said the Bangladesh chairman of selectors, Raqiful Alam. "We believe that a gap from international cricket would be beneficial for him and he will come back strongly soon and do justice to his calibre."

Siddons confident in home conditions | Cricket News | Bangladesh v England 2009/10 | Cricinfo.com

"I spoke to Ash at the end of the New Zealand series," said Siddons. "He said he wanted a rest and I thought I'd talked him out of it, so I'm not sure what's happened in last three or four days. But he's made his decision and I respect it, but I'd love to have him at 3 and 4 in our Test and ODI teams. He's the little diamond in the rough we are looking for, that we need to step up along with Tamim, Mushfiq [Rahim] and Shakib. Those guys have really stepped up, so if Ash can fill the gap, we're a formidable batting team."

Well I have to say it strikes me as pretty unprofessional that Ashraful's requested his own omission from the squad, and not a bit pathetic that he's done so because he's in the midst of a form slump, but I hope the break does him good.

I agree with you completely. His self confidence is into negative, that's why he is so tentative at the crease.Unfortunate, that with all his natural talent,he can't put them to good use often.

I think it was right to step out from the team.New players should get chance to show their talent.
Last time he was axed from the team,he came back with double hundred in FC,I hope this time he does something similar..

Whow's that unprofessional?

He's in a form slump, and his confidence is shot to pieces.

It benefits both Ashraful and Bangladesh if he goes back to domestic cricket and scores runs with the aim of getting into the World T20 squad and the squad to tour England.

Yeah you would think he would settle down in Bangladesh Domestic Cricket. Instead he got out for a 5 ball duck run out in a first class match. So typical of Ashraful. :@
