Auction draft

G.I.Joe

International Coach
Gary Kirsten (LHB, 45.27)
Mahela Jayawardene (RHB, 53.96)
Vivian Richards (RHB, 50.23) (c)
Sachin Tendulkar (RHB, 55.37) (vc)
Vijay Hazare (RHB, 47.65)
Clyde Walcott + (RHB, 56.68)
Aubrey Faulkner (RHB, 40.79, LBG, 26.58)
Shaun Pollock (RHB, 32.31, RFM, 23.11)
Jason Gillespie (RHB, 18.73, RF, 26.13)
Frank Tyson (RHB, 10.95, RF, 18.56)
Subhash Gupte (RHB, 6.31, LBG, 29.55)

IMO, one of the most beautifully balanced sides, with batting down to 8, and still finds room enough to feature 5 full time bowlers - 3 quicks and 2 spinners. This ensures the batting never finds itself short against any sort of bowling attack, and the bowling attack is poised to take advantage of any given set of conditions, right from the incessant toil required of flat tracks to the tailored precision strikes required of turners or greentops.

The batting extends down to 8, with Pollock averaging 32 down there. The #9 has a double century to his name. Kirsten and Jayawardene will open, both excellent batsmen in their own right. The middle order is led by Viv and Sachin, looking forward to some devastating partnerships there. With arguably the two greatest batsmen of the last 36 years batting 3 and 4, thats a pretty solid lineup already. Hazare, Walcott, Faulkner and Pollock round up the batting, and are an impressive bunch even discounting the openers and Sachin and Viv! The average batting average of the team works out to 38 - thats 418 runs on average scored every time the team walks out to bat!

The 5 man bowling attack features Tyson and Pollock opening in a perfect fire and brimstone combination. Gillespie runs in at first change, and the two spinners - Gupte and Faulkner follow. The average bowling average of the 5 man attack works out to 24.7! With the incredibly quick and accurate Tyson, the surgical precision operator Pollock, Gillespie of mullet fame, South Africa's greatest all rounder of his era and arguably India's best ever spinner to contend with, opposition batting lineups will have no respite.

The team will be led by the man who never led his team to a series loss - Vivian Richards, and Tendulkar will deputise.

Obviously Swann, Williams, Boucher and Ramadhin came due to late submissions or something but it'll be interesting to see how many people overpaid on some of those players. I have a feeling I overpaid on Hammond a tad although I got him for slightly below 2 million. I know for a fact that Tendulkar was a close acquisition because I offered a similar fee, how about the others?.

Whatever it takes!!!
1. Sid Barnes
2. Shane Watson
3. Ijaz Ahmed
4. Everton Weekes
5. Carl Hooper
6. MS Dhoni (c) (wk)
7. Alok Kapali
8. Wasim Akram
9. Shane Warne
10. Michael Holding
11. Waqar Younis

Not the greatest batting side, but more than enough to hold their own against some of the bowling attacks here... Weekes, Barnes will be the obvious stars and will be ably supported by Watson and Dhoni who all average above 40 in test cricket. Ijaz is not the worst of the Pakistan batsmen and he is more than capable against good fast bowling sides. Hooper is one of the best batsmen in the world when in the mood and has all the strokes and is equally adept against both spin and pace. Hopefully playing in the company of such a great bowling attack will inspire him to be switched on more often, which was the only real weakness in his game. Kapali is a bit of a misfit but batting down at 7, he could pack a punch with his strokemaking and have an impact even once in 10 innings would be a pretty big deal. Akram, Warne and Holding can all hold a bat and in the case of the first two, wield it well. Waqar can hang around and thus gives me a very very solid tail.

But the bowling is the best part of this team. We have bowlers of all variety and for all conditions. Holding and Akram to open with Waqar and Watson coming in after them equals awesome times million. The spin king Warne will be ably supported by Hooper and others like Weekes and Barnes may chip in as well. Overall, inspite of a couple of $1 picks, this is still a very strong and balanced line up and would be more than a match for almost any other team in this draft... Yeah, that includes yours SS.. ;) :p

Recent events have made this thread take a bit of a backseat. Anyway, whats everyones favourite teams excluding your own?

honestbharani easily has the best bowling attack for me although I like Blakus' bowling lineup as well. As for batting, Somerset has the best top 5 I'd say while NUFAN has the best top 6.

On the whole, I think Pothas, NUFAN and Simon have teams which I like the look of.

I like the teams that have 5 bowling options, or at least some batsman that bowl to a reasonable level. I think in this company you are gonna want 5 bowlers to knock over these batting line ups and the ones that have variations will do better, as a result I like the teams of NUFAN and Noble One, I also think that GI Joe has a decent team but with the likes of Kirsten, Jayawardene, Gillespie, he has players that are/were good but not outstanding. I think if he had of had someone like a Bishen Bedi instead of Gupte and possibly a world class quick such as a Garner or Marshall instead of Gillespie then I'd have put him first.

It hurts.. It actually seriously hurts when you have Wasim, Waqar, Holding, Warne, Watson and Hooper and a poster doesn't even consider you as a 5 man attack with enough variety.. :p

Haha sorry but, but as an overall package I cant consider any team that has the following anywhere near the best.
2 Watson
3 Ijaz
5 Hooper
6 Dhoni
7 Kapali

Ijaz and Hooper were adequate and by no means hopeless, Dhoni I wont even get started on as I dont want to get into a massive debate, while Watson has one test century. Youd want more from your opener. No commment needed on Kapali obviously.

Blakus

State Vice-Captain
After some thought I've decide I like honestbharani's bowling attack the best, whilst the best top 6 belongs to himannv.
However my favorite teams are Nufan's and GIJoe's. If Silentstriker hadn't gotten Flintoff he'd be a contender too. Overall finding really tough to pick a 'best' team. Will be an epic sim when it gets going.

Yep, I'm looking forward to a new one as well.. Am very curious to know the bids per round. Will be good to target where I overspent.

yeah.. I could not play the percentages well.. that is what cost me and I ended up with Ijaz (who I think is pretty decent for $1, btw) and Kapali.. :(

Anyhow GI Joe has an awesome side.. But since I am at work all weekend, I am unable to fully view the sides. IF someone could consolidate all XIs in a single post, that would be a HUGE help in rating them, I think..

Everyone spent the $10,000,000 (obviously) but in terms of value for money, here is the total of the average bids on each player's 11 men:

Code:
silentstriker	7,493,275
Blakus 6,588,872
Himannv 6,576,540
NUFAN 6,551,481
Simon 6,437,294
Pothas 6,251,997
Somerset	6,048,719
G.I.Joe 5,973,664
Noble One	5,813,885
honestbharani	5,768,804
pskov 5,469,484
Nnanden 4,313,969
slowfinger	3,864,864
Suggests to me that SS got the best value for money.

Interesting stuff, thought I had overspent on Bill O'rielly and turns out I only got him by a few dollars.

Very interesting. Incidentally I only got WG Grace by as little as $1,110 - proves that it pays to throw a few extra dollars into your bids sometimes!
