Players who played way more internationals than they should

Dunno, judging by England's selectors he'd probably have gotten 10-20 games and been pigeonholed with the "typical county trundler who'll never make it at the top level - we'd better prefer bowlers who can't hit the cut strip because they look like they can take wickets even though they can't even take wickets at county level".

Never know though.

Loye in fact played far less than he should've done; Nixon played just the right amount.

2 mentions for Hrishikesh Kanitkar when I'm frankly amazed anyone on this site other than me and hardcore Indian fans whose memories date back a decent way has even heard of him.

He was quite figurative of what Indian cricket was in the late 90s. Anybody who followed Indian cricket then would certainly remember him atleast for the famous boundary in the dark to chase down 316 vs Pakistan at Dhaka in 1998.

I know, I mentioned that - there aren't that many such posters on here though.

Off the top of my head can think of Honest, P, SJS, and maybe Jono, and not a lot besides.

Hopes, well he's a gun OD bowler but never struck to me as anything but a bit and pieces player
Wait, what?

How can you be a "gun bowler" but a bits and pieces player at the same time?

That's the thing with Hopes....his selection is warranted simply on the strength of his being a specialist bowler.

Having said that, didn't realise his average had blown out a bit of late....

still economical by today's standards though and that's the main thing

Ever heard of kulkarni, kuruvilla, karim, khoda, dighe, ratra, msk prasad etc?:p

Off the top of my head, that list.

How can we forget Kanitkar and that great match. I remember jumping up and down and screaming. What a match that was...

Really? I mean I don't know his whole story or anything, but the man debuted in a Boxing Day Test. I also remember him playing in a match at the Gabba that I went to. Definitely a name that others who aren't from India or named Richard would have heard of.

Yep .
Scored the final boundary in 316 chase , I thought at that time even if he did nothing besides that he will be remembered , turns out i was right.
Atleast better than likes of khurasia, MSK et al .

My picks:
- MSK Prasad (just a fill-in, but surely there was someone better than this guy)
- H Kanitkar (a one-hit wonder and a joke of a Test cricketer)
- Bharadwaj (who was this guy, anyway?)
- ML Lewis (albeit with hindsight)
- D Ganesh (utterly ineffective in conditions that should've suited him)
- B Lee (I might get bashed, but let's be honest - he didn't warrant his place for much of his Test career)
- GS Blewett (you'd think the AUS selectors would've known better than to play him at #3 in the subcontinent - also had obvious technical flaws and even a couple of temperamental ones)
- DB Powell (I know WI pace stocks have been a bit thin at times, but he has an average of nearly 50!)
- Mohammad Sami (had the talent to do much more, but somehow averages 50 anyway)

Plus all too many Bangladeshi and Zimbabwean Test cricketers and a bunch of others I couldn't be bothered looking up.

Have heard of all of them and even saw live a few games that Ratra was involved in - he played ODIs against England in 2001/02 and Tests in 2002.

I've seen a few deliveries from Kulkarni (presuming that's Nilesh Kulkarni, that is) as well, given that he bowled in the famous Jayasuriya 340 match.

There's a massive difference between being good enough for Test cricket, and being good enough for selection.
