I predict he's going to be very popular.Nkrumah Bonner (keg spinning allrounder)
So we judge every player by one match now Mike? if that's the case have you seen our captains LAST TWO performances? or even your hero Shivs performances over the past year? Powell is excelling coming in at three and is getting near 40 runs on most of the games he's played this season (he has over 130 runs in total) which shows he's consistently staying at the crease for a decent amount of time, he's also played two one dayers for the West Indies already so he's already got experience!! at that level, also this was Brathwaite's first game this season, so if he makes 100 in his next game i guess by your logic he'll be ready right? nah i doubt it .The day/night game between Jamaica and the CCC at Providence has just started....
2ov [. 4 4 . . .] 10/0: Parchment 9*, Hyatt 0*. Two delightful off side boundaries for Parchment, who first leans forward to stroke through the covers, then rocks back and late cuts to the vacant third man.
And at Bourda....
Leewards batting against the Windwards
38o [ 1 . . . . W ] Kieran Powell c Buter b Lewis 48. 91/2. Good catch at long on. The new batsman is Gavin Williams, making his debut.
And at Albion....
Guyana vs Barbados
Barbados 124/2
J Haynes 24*, R Hinds 10*
D Richards 55, K Brathwaite 33
So, while both Brathwaite and Powell have shown promise, they're still not ready for West Indies duties yet. They need to be able to push on from the starts that they've gotten. They are clearly players for the future, if they continue to improve. But, as today's innings' have shown, they're not ready yet....
Also, Barbados chose to omit Jason Holder from the squad, playing Corey Edwards instead. If he's not ready for Barbados yet, clearly he's not ready for West Indies duties yet, either.
Is Powell really excelling at three? This is his fourth match for the Leewards, and he's averaging 20, having failed to pass his highest score of 48 so far. Definitely not material to be called up to the WI yet. Our youngsters have to do a lot more with the bat if they want to be called into the WI team....So we judge every player by one match now Mike? if that's the case have you seen our captains LAST TWO performances? or even your hero Shivs performances over the past year? I know you are trying to debate WindieWeathers strange views on team selection but to say KB is not ready because he only got 33 on a flat track in his first innings of the season is ridiculous. What if he scores a century in his next two innings? I actually agree with you on the issue of playing the Under 19 guys but your line of reasoning in this case is completely flawed. Maybe I shall put it down to you trying to fight fire with fireSo, while both Brathwaite and Powell have shown promise, they're still not ready for West Indies duties yet. He's definitely not ready yet, I'm sure even Jason himself would admit that. But it was a brain-dead decision by the Bajan selectors to leave him out in favour of the insanely ordinary Corey Edwards. It was a decision based on loyalty to Bajan club cricket performers rather than cricket talent as Holder is already twice the bowler Edwards will ever be IMHO.Also, Barbados chose to omit Jason Holder from the squad, playing Corey Edwards instead. Don't ignore this quote, Beamer - it's puts it all in context....As I've said time and time again, he needs to follow the well-worn path of Barath before he's chosen to play for the West Indies.
Yeah I saw that quote and agree with you regarding the youngsters. Barath should be the model they use to provide a stepladder for the youngsters to make it to the test level.Don't ignore this quote, Beamer - it's puts it all in context....
For some reason, this point that I keep trying to make is being conveniently ignored.
Brathwaite got 77 on his FC debut so he's already shown he can bat for long spells, Barath had ups and downs too so judging the kid on his performance yesterday is frivolous imo, because just like i said he could make a 100 in his next game and then your argument goes out of the window, as for Powell, he started this season opening and has only moved to three recently, since then he's been making over 30 runs per match, and i believe his average will improve the more he plays, you can keep living in the past as far as Xavier is concerned but my argument is some youngsters are actually very talented and are capable of making the step up, especially if it's in an ODI against Zimbabwe, i'm not saying we should throw them in against South Africa. Is Powell really excelling at three? As for Brathwaite, it's just his first match, and this 33 on a dead batting track shows that he still needs time to put together a proper season for Barbados, before we usher him into the WI side. As I've said time and time again, he needs to follow the well-worn path of Barath before he's chosen to play for the West Indies.
Interestingly, none of the batsmen were able to move on to three figures in any of the games yesterday, despite the dead batting tracks on display. HOpefully, we'll see some better batting on today's second day.
Referring back to Xavier Marshall is not living in the past - it's an instructive case which we need to learn from....Brathwaite got 77 on his FC debut so he's already shown he can bat for long spells, Barath had ups and downs too so judging the kid on his performance yesterday is frivolous imo, because just like i said he could make a 100 in his next game and then your argument goes out of the window, as for Powell, he started this season opening and has only moved to three recently, since then he's been making over 30 runs per match, and i believe his average will improve the more he plays, you can keep living in the past as far as Xavier is concerned but my argument is some youngsters are actually very talented and are capable of making the step up, especially if it's in an ODI against Zimbabwe, i'm not saying we should throw them in against South Africa.
