*Official* South Africa in India

Whatever it takes!!!
India

Without Sehwag, Dravid and Laxman, we're well and truly screwed.
How can you forget SRT?

And Bagapath, big lol on the ratings stuff.. ( I don't see how I can rate him better than Lara. I always have them mighty close, so an innings or two does seem to change it, but with Lara having retired, I don't think it is fair, but this is for another thread :p )

But it is really an impossible task from here.. 8 wickets in hand, 300+ down still and RSA with an innings in hand.. Can't see us avoiding a 150+ innings defeat, tbh.. :(

SRT can make his customary 35 runs and leave.

Steyn has 193 wkts. So by the time, this tour is over he would have played 38 tests and if he gets to 200 wkts in this series then he would be one of the quickest to get to that landmark, placing him on par with Lillee and Younis.

Code:
Player	Matches Taken for 200 wickets

CV Grimmet (Australia)	36
Dennis Lillee (Australia)	38
Waqar Younis (Pakistan)	38
IT Botham (England) 41
SCG MacGill (Australia)	41
MD Marshall (West Indies)	42
SK Warne (Australia) 42
AA Donald (South Africa)	42
M Muralitharan (Sri Lanka)	42
AV Bedser (England) 44
RJ Hadlee (New Zealand)	44
J Garner (West Indies)	44
Imran Khan (Pakistan)	45
CEL Ambrose (West Indies)	45
GD McGrath (Australia)	45
btw, he can go past Lillee and Younis, if he takes 7 of the remaining 8 Indian wkts

Where has all the discussion on South Africa's inherent negative tactics gone after they enforced the follow-on?

that's a surprising comment from you considering you thought there isn't going to be a result in the game!

What happened in this game is more due to exceptional bowling by Steyn than anything else

Of course, they were negative with the bat.. Juz because Steyn bowled an amazing spell and the Indians were inept with the bat with a weakened bating line up, I am not gonna come out here and think they batted anything great.. I am sorry, their run rates were the same on both days.. That shows they were worried about getting bowled out instead of thinking of setting a target and gaining time...

From a statistical point of view Steyn is putting his hand up as a future alltime great. Wickets against Australia in Australia and average under 20 with the ball in India. Would've been to see him take 10 wickets for the day. 23 wkts @ 16 in India. :-O

Haha I swear I read that you criticised South Africa for going slow.
I did! They should have scored quicker.

I'm just wondering why enforcing the follow-on hasn't attracted much comment. South Africa are criticised constantly for their inherent conservativism, but when they do something intrinsically positive that IMO no other team would have done, it's completely ignored.

Steyn was on fire. It would've been ridiculous to have batted again.

Lead by 330 runs, with more than an hour left on the 3rd day and your bowlers have only bowled 70 overs.. No other team would have done it??????? Seriously?

Probably not. If you don't enforce it, you still lead by 330 runs, there's still more than an hour left on the 3rd day and your bowlers have still only bowled 70 overs. In India especially where pitches are always expected to deteriorate over the course of the game, the follow-on doesn't have many takers.

Outstanding spell of bowling from Steyn, took the pitch out of the equation though it was aided by some gutless batting from India’s tail. Backing away in 2010 on a wicket with no demons is pretty pathetic and what’s worse is that Zaheer, Bhaji et cetera can all hold a bat. Thought Morkel was fantastic as well, only bowled three balls at Gambia today.

I wouldn’t be surprised if India can manage the draw. Wicket is still pancake for the seamers and you should back yourself to bat time.
